181 - Building a new WELLNESS HABIT: The 10,000 Push-Up Challenge

On January 1, 2021, host Tim Cavey tweeted “All right, educators. Who’s up for the 10,000 push-up challenge this year? We’ll need to average 28 per day and track our progress together.” At the time, he hoped that maybe a few educators might join him. To his surprise, the tweet was liked hundreds of times, and over 170 educators joined him in a Google Sheet to track their push-up progress together. By January 16, 2021, challenge participants had combined for 66,357 recorded push-ups! As fun as that is, the challenge isn’t actually about the numbers. It’s about lifestyle change. It’s about gradually building a new daily habit: one that improves our fitness and expands our capacity to serve others. Whether you’re an official member of the Teachers on Fire 10,000 Push-Up Challenge or you’re on your own quest for teacher wellness, this conversation will encourage you. Enjoy. Welcome to Roundtables: livestreamed conversations meant to warm your heart, spark your thinking, and ignite your professional practice. QUESTIONS THAT GUIDED THIS DISCUSSION Q1 - Who are you and what does your CONTEXT in education look like? Q2 - What is your WHY for the push-up challenge? Where does your motivation come from? Q3 - How is the challenge going so far for you? UPDATE us. Q4 - What are your tips, tricks, or strategies for getting in your reps and keeping this going with CONSISTENCY?
