43. Sengoku I: The Onin War and the Rise of the Daimyo

This week, we begin a three part exploration of the Sengoku Jidai, The Japanese Warring States Period. Needless to say, this time of upheaval, warfare and intrigue is jam-packed with interesting stuff, so let’ get started. 42. The Son of Sam, pt. 2: Wicked King Wicker

Part 2 of our second American Haunting story.   Join us for the second installment on the Son of Sam as we cover his arrest, his confounding confession, and then the web of conspiracy that would begin to unravel around David Berkowitz and implicate the Process Church of the Final Judgment, a Satanic offshoot of Scientology that became famous in the countercultural movement of the late 60s and early 70s in the United States. 41. Oliver Stone‘s JFK feat. Patrick and Ian

Re-uploaded due to technical issues. This week, the LU Boys are joined once again by friends of the pod Patrick and Ian to discuss the monstrously long director's cut of Oliver Stone's JFK, a film that explores how the #CIAkilledJFK with some baffling elements thrown in. We also discuss Oliver Stone's new documentary JFK Revisited, Don DeLillo's novel Libra, and our own ideas and fascinations with the last assassination of a US president, and why it still looms so large in our collective consciousness. 40. American Utopia, pt. 3: The Italian Job

Let us warmly welcome you back into the American Utopia of Allen Dulles. First, we give a very brief recounting of America’s involvement in the Russian Civil War, and then we fast forward ahead to the 1940s when Dulles was engaging in a power struggle in Washington with Harry Truman while the early CIA dipped its toes in regime change during the 1948 Italian elections and a young congressman from Southern California began cutting his teeth with the House Un-American Activities Committee. Finally, we’ll look at how the Sauron eye of the American deep state fixed its gaze further east with Operation Splinter Factor and take a look at the first rumblings of the stay behind armies that would terrorize Europe in the coming decades. 39. GG Allin: Underground Messiah

This week, Team LU discuss the undisputed heavyweight champion of Rock and Roll Debauchery: GG Allin. GG was a filthy, violent, disturbed freak, and the many tales of his extreme actions both on and off stage stand as testament to these facts. He was no one to admire, for sure. But he did record a few rippers tho… Follow The Rock & Roll Underground here: @leftunreadpod @poorfidalgo @gluten_yung Any and all email correspondence should be directed here: leftunreadpod@gmail.com Theme song courtesy of Interesting Times Gang: itgang.bandcamp.com

37. The Son of Sam, pt. 1: Hello From the Gutters

Hello from the gutters of New York City... Join us for another American Haunting tale. In the summer of 1976, a string of killings began in the New York City boroughs of Queens and the Bronx. Despite the modus operandi being similar throughout them, the police did not realize they had a string of serial murders until the following year. By the summer of 1977, the city was completely gripped in fear by these mysterious murders of young people in their cars, and yet nothing in the case made sense as descriptions of the assailants and composite sketches seemed to suggest there were multiple killers stalking the city with a 0.44-caliber revolver. What’s more, the killer(s) began taunting the police and press with cryptic letters, and over time, the killings would grow to resemble other killings across the country. Was David Berkowitz the Son of Sam, or was he acting with a cult of Satanists stalking the American countryside? You can follow the Satanic panic on Twitter: @leftunreadpod (Twitter and Instagram) @poorfidalgo @gluten_yung You can reach out to us at leftunreadpod@gmail.com. 36. Possession, Exorcism, and You

This week, the LU Boys discuss the fascinating, millenia-old phenomenon of Demonic Possession and Exorcism. Since prehistory, man has often found wild, fantastic explanations for every variety of malady, including the notion of the body being infested by malign spirits. However, despite advances in modern medicine and research into mental illness, many people persist in some variation of this belief to the present day. Why, you ask? Well let’s talk about that. Follow the Subtle Sorcerers here: @leftunreadpod (Twitter and Insta) @poorfidalgo @gluten_yung Theme music courtesy of the incomparable Interesting Times Gang: itgang.bandcamp.com We talked about some serious abuses of the mentally ill this episode. If you or anyone you know need help, here are some resources to get you started. Remember, LU loves you. National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 1-800-273-TALK (8255) Crisis Text Line: text HELLO to 741741 And many services exist to find further counseling remotely, such as BetterHelp and TalkSpace. 35. The Cursed Bread of Pont-Saint-Esprit

Come with us on a journey out of space and time, into another dimension… This week, the lads continue their Halloween-special month with another terrifying tale. Join us as we examine the Pont-Saint-Esprit mass psychosis in the small French commune from 1951. Following some unexplained poisoning of the bread in the town, its residents were descended into a week straight from Hell as they began attacking each other, raving about incomprehensible forces assaulting them, and killing themselves through paranoid and bizarre delusional acts. Was this event a rare but historically-precedented case of ergot poisoning, or were there far more sinister forces at play? You can follow the raving lunatics on Twitter: @leftunreadpod (Twitter and Instagram) @poorfidalgo @gluten_yung You can reach out to us at leftunreadpod@gmail.com. Suggestions, cyberbullying, and unequivocal adoration are all welcome.
