68: Tami Amanda - How do you deal with emotional constipation?

Tami Amanda has devoted her life to studying the brain, the nervous system, and why we develop in the ways we do. Tami's own journey of recovery from sexual trauma and an eating disorder has greatly shaped who she is as a coach, therapist, and human.  She found healing by finding what helped her feel the most alive and through living in collaboration with her inner child. She now supports women in creating internal safety to be able to heal from trauma and toxic shame. Tami is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Mind-Body Coach who specializes in treating trauma-related issues, anxiety, depression, behavioral struggles, body image struggles, social conflict, stress management, and life transitions. When she began practicing clinically, she exclusively focused on children and families who experienced trauma.  She co-developed a mental health program in the St. Louis Public School District to teach schools how to be more trauma-informed and to support traumatized immigrant and refugee children in healing their nervous systems.   Tami believes strongly that there is healing available to all of us.  She believes in the power of activating people's innate capacity to self-heal and empowering people to know that they can.   She also wants to express deep gratitude to her teachers Courtney McNabb, Devin Jones, Bessel Van Der Kolk and Daniel Siegel. 67: Dr. Jody Carrington - How do you change the relationships with people you love?

Dr. Jody Carrington is a Clinical Psychologist who has spent most of her career working with children and families who have experienced trauma. For ten years, she worked on the Mental Health Inpatient Units of the Alberta Children’s Hospital, where she became a believer in the power of the relationship in assisting children and their families struggling with emotional dysregulation. She has developed a particular passion for working with teachers and school staff, who often spend more time with them, during the day, than their primary caregivers. She is an author and speaker. Over the past 15 years, Dr. Carrington has assessed, treated, educated, and empowered some of our most vulnerable and precious souls on the planet. She is a child psychologist by trade, but Jody rarely treats kids. The answer lies, she believes, in the people who hold them. Especially when kids have experienced trauma, that’s when they need big people the most. Some of her favorites include educators, parents, first responders, and foster parents. Jody has shifted the way they think and feel about the holy work that they do. Jody received her Bachelor of Arts with Distinction from the University of Alberta, she completed a year-long internship with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police during that time and worked alongside families struggling with chronic illness at the Ronald McDonald House. She received her Master’s degree in Psychology at the University of Regina and completed her Ph.D. there as well, before completing her residency in Nova Scotia. Her first book, Kids These Days: A Game Plan for (Re)Connecting with those we Teach, Lead & Love, came out in 2019 and sold 20,000 copies in just three months.  You can find her website here: http://www.drjodycarrington.com Follow her on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/drjodycarrington ____________________________________________________________________ Follow me on Instagram @LongDistanceLoveBombs: https://www.instagram.com/longdistancelovebombs Each week, I share a personal story as well as my favorite books, tunes, articles, and ideas.  Sign up for my weekly newsletter here: http://eepurl.com/T0l91.  It's easy and takes five seconds.

66: Beau Miles - How can you find adventure in the mundane?

Beau Miles makes videos of his adventures doing things the rest of us wouldn’t, like when he attempted to paddle around from one side of Africa to the other; when he ran over 650 km of the Australian Alpine Walking Track; and when he walked 90 km to get to work.   "He is a filmmaker who spent his childhood looking for golf balls, secretly hoping to find a body part in the swamps and marshes.  He still looks in odd places for much the same thing (and feeling).  Being a redhead means that sunscreen, big hats, and old business shirts cloak him during outdoor life.  He likes baths more than showers, homemade wine, and licorice.  By god he likes licorice." He previously worked as an outdoor education lecturer at Melbourne's Monash University, and he has a book coming out this year about finding adventure in the everyday.
