So, yes they went all out to woo the quarterback to Atlanta.Then came NFL Draft day, and the Falcons were quickly the talk of the town once again, drafting a 24-year-old rookie quarterback with the No. 8 overall pick. Kirk Cousins's deal is for four years, so they either just bought really expensive insurance, or quickly realized they spent their money wrong and this is the plan to bail themselves out. Only time will tell how this turns out.Drake London, Kyle Pitts, and Bijian Robinson all return to headline the offensive studs for Atlanta. The 29-year-old quarterback signed a three-year $100 million dollar deal that includes $30 million guaranteed in year one. Then they brought back the perennial 1,000-yard receiver Mike Evans. Evans got a two-year $52 million dollar deal, he’s already got 10 consecutive 1,000-yard seasons and he’d like to make it 12.Chris Godwin also returns to the team and they brought in rookie third-round pick Jalen McMillian out of the University of Washington to learn behind two great receivers. Ryan Jensen left a big void at the center position when he retired after the 2023 season, a void that was filled in the first round of the draft with Guard/Center Graham Barton from Duke University.The Buccaneers didn’t lose a lot of players to free agency but the ones they did lose will definitely leave a mark. Shaq Barrett and Devin White leave a huge void in the middle of the defense. Luckily for the Buccaneers Lavonte David put off retirement for at least another season, he’ll be a good player for rookie second-round pick Chris Braswell, the linebacker from the University of Alabama to learn under.The Buccaneers secondary needed a boost after losing Carlton Davis and starting an undrafted free agent in Christian Izien last year. They’ve brought in a mostly new defensive coaching staff and made a few key free agent signings. Terrell Edmunds and Darnell Savage will boost the safety position with Ronald Darby and Tre Flowers bolsters the cornerbacks. Defensive lineman Arik Armsted will be a great teacher for their young rookies.They specifically enjoyed all things LSU Tigers in the NFL Draft. Very few key pieces left the team as they have the shortest departure list in the entire league.They re-signed star receiver Michael Pittman to a three-year $70-million dollar deal with $41-million in guaranteed money, saving Pittman from having to play on the franchise tag. Defensive tackle DeForest Buckner got a two-year extension worth a whopping $46-million dollars keeping him on the team through 2026.The team also brought back Danny Pinter, Tyquan Lewis, Gerard Avery, Grover Stewart, Taven Bryant, Kenny Moore II, Zaire Franklin, Julian Blackmon and Ronnie Harris among others.Anthony Richardson showed a lot of flash and promise in his rookie season. If he can stay healthy this Colts offense should be deadly. One things the Colts did pay for in free agency was a strong veteran backup quarterback in Joe Flacco to help teach Richardson, and fill in if necessary.Jonathan Taylor is fully healthy and ready for a big season. General manager Chris Ballard believes that and was quoted as saying “Jonathan Taylor will have a big year.” Zach Moss moves on to the Cincinnati Bengals but Trey Sermon quietly re-signed with the team and could play a much bigger role in 2024. Longtime head coach Pete Carroll stepped down and took a role in the front office. Mike Macdonald, who spent nine of the last 10 seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, the last two as their defensive coordinator steps in to take over for Carroll. Ryan Grubb who took the Washington Huskies to the National Championship game as their offensive coordinator, come to Seattle for the same position.Geno Smith is still likely the starting quarterback but the team traded for Washington Commanders quarterback Sam Howell to bring competition and backup for Geno.
