Alec Harris: Halo Privacy & Bitcoin

Crypto Voices: Episode 89 Show support appreciated: 35iDYDYqRdN2x6KGcpdV2W1Hy3AjGje9oL Show Sponsor: https://hodlhodl.com/join/cryptovoices Matthew interviews Alec Harris, Managing Director of Halo Privacy, providing secure communications via cryptography and managed attribution for a variety of clients. Alec is an expert in the privacy world, protecting many types of clients. We talk first and foremost how Covid-19 will affect our privacy going forward. Alec overviews some of the main services that Halo Privacy offers, and how they can help you secure your online profile. We also discuss the overlap that Bitcoin has to all of this, including contrasting cash in the physical world versus the digital world. Alec has written many insightful blog posts on privacy, and we discuss two of them. The first is very detailed, and concerns actually obfuscating your personal identity and not tying it to your physical address. The second is a bit more lighthearted, touching on all of the Zoom meetings around the world occurring due to the quarantine. Alec's comments and steps offered toward getting on the right path to privacy are very insightful, and concrete even if you're a beginner. Privacy is a spectrum, but Alec makes the great point that anyone can and should at least take those first steps and start that journey toward better privacy. Listen on to learn more. Monetary Base Compendium (2019 Q4)

Crypto Voices: Episode 88 Show support appreciated: 35iDYDYqRdN2x6KGcpdV2W1Hy3AjGje9oL Show sponsor, please use this link to help us out! https://hodlhodl.com/join/cryptovoices Matthew updates on the Crypto Voices Monetary Base exhibit for 2019 Q4. This episode will be a lot easier if following along with the tweet thread, which is here: https://twitter.com/crypto_voices/status/1227949623362379778?s=20 Or, you can also follow along with the exhibits here: cryptovoices.com/basemoney Bottom line: Bitcoin is currently the #9th largest base money in the fiat world. Bitcoin is currently the #11th largest base money in the fiat world, including past base monies gold & silver. Bitcoin is unquestionably unlike anything else in the (financial) world. However, if you are going to try and compare Bitcoin's supply with other supply curves in the financial world, don't. The only money supply you can compare it to is fiat's "Monetary Base," or "Base Money." Firstly, something needs to be used as a medium of exchange to technically be called "money." Gold and silver used to be. Fiat is now. Bitcoin very well could be. But don't get carried away. We need to compare bitcoin (and gold... and silver) to fiat's "base money" supply, and *only* to the base money supply. M1/M2/M3 and all others simply aren't comparable. Why? Because those supplies include "claims" on base money. In this episode, we review the 2019Q4 tweet thread in depth, covering: 1) Some of the economic, seismic changes of China and India; 2) What reserve balances really are, and how we economically look at them; 3) What other bank balances economically are (we are the creditors, banks are the debtors); 4) The methodological changes we've made with gold and silver, from using "all-time" gold and silver mined ounces, to using estimated, liquid gold and silver outstanding ounces (bullion plus jewelry); 5) The deeper meaning behind mainstream journalism's economic assumptions, views, and narratives pushed, versus their effort in actually providing well-thought data to their audience. Trace Mayer: Proof of Keys, Bitcoin, & gold (Both paper & real!)

Crypto Voices: Episode 83 Show support appreciated: 35iDYDYqRdN2x6KGcpdV2W1Hy3AjGje9oL Matthew & Fernando interview Trace Mayer, longtime Bitcoin advocate and founder of the public service initiative Proof of Keys. The 2nd annual celebration is coming up on 3 January 2020. Trace covers from A to Z on what Proof of Keys is all about, how to partake in the initiative, best practices, and his personal recommendations in climbing the mountaintop to monetary sovereignty. It's a fantastic initiative than anyone in the world can participate in, with just a little bit of hardware, knowhow, and personal responsibility. We also spend a good bulk of the interview comparing bitcoin and gold. The parallels between the ancient monetary metal and the future digital medium of sound money are fascinating. We talk about gold's monetary history, particularly during World War II, the well known gold price suppression schemes, paper gold leveraged by bullion banks and central banks, how much gold reserves "officially" compare with their monetary base, and all the positive contrasts and future possibilities bitcoin offers compared with gold's mechanics. The "paper gold" we talked about is well referenced here: https://www.bullionstar.com/blogs/bullionstar/what-sets-the-gold-price-is-it-the-paper-market-or-physical-market/ Listen on to learn more, and how to signal and participate in Proof of Keys Links for more info: https://twitter.com/tracemayer https://www.proofofkeys.com https://www.bitcoin.kn Show Sponsor: cryptovoices.com/tradesmithoffer Hosts: Matthew Mežinskis, Fernando Ulrich Music: New Friend Music newfriendmusic.com/ Site: cryptovoices.com/ Podcast & Information Cryptoeconomics & Liberty Thanks for listening!
