Paul Sztorc: Drivechain & Bitcoin Hivemind (and much more)
Crypto Voices: Episode 98
Show support appreciated: https://donations.cryptovoices.com
Show Sponsor:
https://hodlhodl.com/join/cryptovoices
Matthew welcomes Paul Sztorc back to the show.
We get an update on Drivechain, the sidechain technology Paul is behind, which is a necessary Bitcoin soft fork in order to implement Paul's other project, Bitcoin Hivemind (formerly Truthcoin).
Paul discusses his perspective and reflections on the scaling debate in Bitcoin over the years, his views on where we are now, some of the bright spots in Bitcoin, and some of his concerns. We discuss exchanges and the world of credit, and the nexus of "interested parties" as Bitcoin grows.
We cover some of the basics of Paul's prediction market idea, and the importance of getting it right on Bitcoin (in order to eventually be as successful an idea as Bitcoin). What is the meaning of truth? The link below on Paul's video presentation at Anarchapulco describing how prediction markets can change politics is a must watch.
We wrap it up with some thoughts on Covid-19 and the latest Drivechain news.

- This article mentions all three calls for energy money. Buckminister Fuller recommended a "kilowatt dollar," Thomas Edison envisioned an "energy dollar," and Henry Ford conceptualized backing a currency by "a unit of energy." (https://ddcolrs.wordpress.com/2018/09/27/edisons-energy-dollar/)
- As for the actual source materials, and not just the mentions, Henry Ford's energy currency proposal is the headline of this NY Tribune article from 1921 (top left corner) (https://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/lccn/sn83030214/1921-12-04/ed-1/seq-1/)
- Jesse: "Though I unfortunately cannot say that I have read the direct source material for the Fuller or Edison quotes, Fuller's quote is apparently taken from his book 'Operating Manual for Spaceship Earth'" (https://www.amazon.ca/Operating-Manual-Spaceship-Buckminster-Fuller/dp/3037781262)
- Edison's quote apparently comes from this book, "1929: America Before the Crash" - http://www.amazon.com/dp/0815412800/. I was referred to the aforementioned Edison quote & book from this article (https://energybackedmoney.com/chapter5.html)
- Bonus - Dan Held mentions "In the early 20th century, industry leaders like Henry Ford and Thomas Edison were interested in replacing gold or the dollar with “the energy dollar” or “units of energy” (commodity/energy currency)" in this blog (https://www.danheld.com/blog/2019/1/5/pow-is-efficent)

Matthew updates on the Crypto Voices Monetary Base exhibit for 2020 Q2 with Marty Bent on his Tales from the Crypt podcast. This episode will be a lot easier if following along with the tweet thread, which is here: https://twitter.com/crypto_voices/status/1296442813756911623?s=20
Or, you can also follow along with the exhibits here: cryptovoices.com/basemoney
Bottom line:
Bitcoin is currently the #10th largest base money in the fiat world.
Bitcoin is currently the #12th largest base money in the fiat world, including past base monies gold & silver.
Bitcoin is unquestionably unlike anything else in the (financial) world. However, if you are going to try and compare Bitcoin's supply with other supply curves in the financial world, don't. The only money supply you can compare it to is fiat's "Monetary Base," or "Base Money."
Firstly, something needs to be used as a medium of exchange to technically be called "money."
Gold and silver used to be.
Fiat is now.
Bitcoin very well could be.
But don't get carried away. We need to compare bitcoin (and gold... and silver) to fiat's "base money" supply, and *only* to the base money supply.
M1/M2/M3 and all others simply aren't comparable. Why? Because those supplies include "claims" on base money.

Monetary & Political update, Crypto Voices show update
Crypto Voices: Episode 92

Show Sponsor:
https://hodlhodl.com/join/cryptovoices
Matthew and Fernando update on the latest goings on in the monetary and political game, with a focus on Brazil.
Fernando rejoins the show after being absent for many interviews, as he has been focusing on his YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCLJkh3QjHsLtK0LZFd28oGg), which is rapidly becoming a popular forum in Brazil on money and the political economy. Keep in mind, even though the channel is in Portuguese, it's easy to watch in any language with YouTube's closed captioning! Fernando will stay with Crypto Voices, but will be a less frequent color-commentating guest moving forward. Also interesting "news" is that Fernando late last year joined the board of the Brazilian mint (Casa da Moeda do Brasil), where he will advise on the printing of basic currency (acting on behalf of the central bank).
From Matthew and Crypto Voice's side, he will continue to do guest interviews in the Bitcoin space, but will focus more on producing web content and YouTube videos in the future, also in the political and monetary sector, such as developing out the monetary base exhibits.
Matthew and Fernando discuss the political and monetary economy due to Covid, as well as updating and clarifying a few points in our Q1 2020 monetary base update (released in May). When you reach that part in the episode, it's easiest to follow on with the Twitter thread here: https://twitter.com/crypto_voices/status/1260212049436708867?s=20
