348: Bobby Monks, Author of "UNINVE$TED"

Today’s guest is a serial entrepreneur. He founded, led and grew numerous businesses in the financial services, real estate, media and tech sectors. Robert or "Bobby" Monks as he goes by, is out with a new tell-all book. It’s called, "UNINVE$TED: How Wall Street Hijacks Your Money and How to Fight Back." It offers an interesting perspective considering Bobby worked in finance for almost his entire work life. So, in this book he is blowing the cover on how Wall Street works. He’s got a lot to say on the matter. The book is really a way to teach Americans on how financial firms and money managers on Wall Street are profiting from our ignorance by over complicating the investing system. Bobby talks about how the system is corrupt and what we can do to change it and he would know. He was once the chairman of Spinnaker Trust, managing over a $1 billion in asset so he’s had quite the perspective. With Bobby, we learn how to seek out a financial adviser who is working in your best interest and is affordable. How to negotiate with your financial adviser to lower his or her fees and the costly truth about 401(k)’s. For more information visit www.somoneypodcast.com. Hosted on Acast. 344: Michael Roderick, Former Broadway Producer & Entrepreneur

The show today is about your relationship strategy. You may have heard the expression, "You are the average of the 5 people you spend most of your time with." Think about that. Do you like these 5 people? Do they support you? Reciprocate the help and advice you give? Our guest today is an expert in helping people strategize relationship building. Michal Roderick is the CEO of Small Pond Enterprises LLC, a consulting company and educational resource for solopreneurs, entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs. I had to look up the word intrapreneur…it’s someone who works INSIDE a company who exhibits entrepreneurial qualities. Michael was once a high school teacher turned Broadway producer in less than two years. That experience led him to start an arts incubator program to teach fellow artists how to build and grow their own businesses. Eventually, he developed a workshop on networking which grew into a full-fledged consulting practice and that's how Small Pond Enterprises was born. For more information visit www.somoneypodcast.com. 343: Jennefer Witter, PR Exec & Author, "Little Book of Big PR"

Today I have a longtime friend joining me on the show. I’ve known Jennefer Witter for at least 10 years. Jennefer is the CEO and founder of The Boreland Group, a national PR firm headquartered in New York City. It’s not often as journalist that you become friends with the publicist. The publicist who e-mail you, write to you, call you, grab you for five minutes at a conference to tell you about their company. I’m all for pitches. I love working with publicists for the most part. They are very helpful to me and instrumental in the work that I do. We wouldn’t have guests on this show if it wasn’t for the good work and the kind work of publicists who represent amazing people and amazing brands, but rarely do you actually befriend these people in your personal life where you actually go to dinners and you share personal stories. Jennefer and I really clicked way back when I was working at NY1. Initially, we started out as just business friends. We worked together, she sent me pitches, I had some of her guest on the show. So, long story short, we’ve been in touch for all of these years. Her business has exploded as well. She’s on the show today to share some of her lessons learned as well as her financial mindset and behaviors. How she has been able to build wealth while living here. Also, how, as a single female entrepreneur, she’s been able to build her business to the point where she was named one of the top 10 black CEO entrepreneurs in the country. She also has a book called, The Little Book of Big PR: 100 Plus Quick Tips to Grow Your Small Business. In addition to getting her clients on top national and regional platforms, she herself has been featured in Fast Company, Bloomberg, The Huffington Post and TheStreet.com. She’s also an advocate for women in business and serves as an active member of Elevate New York. For more information visit www.somoneypodcast.com. Hosted on Acast.
