358: Bing Chen, Digital Media Pioneer & Entrepreneur

Today on So Money millennial week we have a digital media pioneer and entrepreneur. He, like many of the others this week, is not even 30 yet. In 2014, Bing Chen was featured in Forbes' 30 under 30 in the Hollywood and Entertainment category. Now, Bing has quite the resume. He was once YouTube’s Global Head of Creator Development and Management where he spearheaded most of the platform’s early major acquisitions, development and promotional services, for its now 300 million creative artists globally. Today, he’s the co-founder of Victorious, a new media passion platform and new media content producer. I’m not really sure what that means so I ask him about that. He goes into a deep-dive about what he’s working on today and why it’s going to change the world. We also go back in time. You can tell right off the bat, he is hardwired differently. So, I want to know, what did he want to be when he was younger? Growing up who was his role model? You’re going to be surprised to hear what he has to say. Also we talk about the future of social media. Does YouTube have what it takes to remain the number one video platform? He also reminisces about getting hired by Google. Plus he shares what that interview process was like. You always hear all sorts of stories about the difficulty of getting jobs at big places like that. So Bing is going to take us behind the scenes - you’ll want to hear this story. For more information visit www.somoneypodcast.com. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

357: Arteen Arabshahi, Venture Capitalist from Forbes 30 Under 30

Today I have a family friend on the show, a good friend and college buddy of my brother, Todd. Arteen Arabshahi is here. He recently made Forbes' 30 Under 30 list for 2016 in the Venture Capital category. Arteen is just one of those guys where you just know he’s on to accomplishing big things. In 2013, Arteen joined as #2 at Karlin Ventures, an LA-based early stage fund with investments such as Gyft, Cirrosecure, Laurel & Wolf and others. Before investing in enterprise software and marketplaces he spearheded the launch of Build in LA, an online community for digital entrepreneurs and innovators. Outside of his work with startups, Arteen sits on the board of TEDxVenice Beach and he's an active supporter of To Write Love On Her Arms (TWLOHA), a non-profit raising awareness and support for mental health. He also teaches at General Assembly and The Unique CAMP. Arteen is a natural people person. I’ve known him for many years now. It’s something that all of us identify in him. He’s an extrovert, so how does he harness that to then build and advance in his career? How does Arteen make decisions when it comes to the next steps in his career? He doesn’t really listen to a lot of people. He talks about his strategy. Plus, how does this So Money Millennial manage his money? What are some of the investments that haven’t done so well for him and how is he trying to make the most of his paycheck? For more information visit www.somoneypodcast.com. Hosted on Acast. Victoria Reitano is now the CEO and lead consultant at her own company, CreatiVix Media, a digital agency based in New York City. It’s dedicated to making social media manageable for all. She's the author of two very successful books, most recently, "The Conquer Kit: A Creative Business Planner for Women Entrepreneurs" and "She Takes On the World: A Guide to Being Your Own Boss, Working Happy, and Living on Purpose." 352: Allison Task, Life Coach

I have a friend on the show today, Allison Fishman Task. She's a personal coach. Allison helps people move through life transitions. The majority of clients use Allison’s coaching to significantly change their careers, whether it’s moving up in their current role, starting their own business or finding a new, more meaningful job. She also works with parents-to-be and new parents as they prepare for the changes that come along with expanding a family. She knows this well - she is the mom to three children under the age of three. Can you believe it? She’s amazing. Allison received her coaching certificate from New York University. She also has a degree from Cornell in human development and family studies. Also, a fun fact about Allison... before coaching, she had another life in the culinary world. That’s how we met. She authored cookbooks and hosted culinary TV and web shows including TLC’s Home Made Simple and Lifetime’s Cook Yourself Thin. She also had a great show on Yahoo! called Blue Ribbon Hunter. Some take away with Allison, how she works with clients to help them transition to more meaningful place in their careers. She offers some case studies. Plus, the one million dollar financial failure that she learned the hard way but Allison being Allison took that failure, turned it into a remarkable lesson and to this day continues to learn from that financial failure. 351: Joe Koss, Debt-Free College Professor

I decided to bring an avid listener from the podcast on today's show. He's been writing in, not just praising the show, but he has a really interesting story of his own about getting out of $50,000 worth of student loan debt. His name is Joe Koss. He is an accountant by trade and teaches as an adjunct professor at several colleges and universities on the topic of accounting and personal finance. Joe was once saddled with debt, a lot of it, everything from credit cards to auto and student loans. Most recently he had $50,000 in student loans and he worked to pay that off on time and as quickly as possible. He had about $28,000 left in that student loan figure and it was the biggest push he made to get rid of that in just 14 months. It turns out that teaching personal finance to a bunch of college students is what gave Joe the motivation ultimately to practice what he preached to his students. Some take away from our conversation with Joe. He shares the specific steps he took to get out of that $50,000 in student loans and why he was adamant about it. It wasn’t a very high interest rate, he was on a fixed payment plan. Why be aggressive with the student loans? How he budgets and it’s not very sophisticated but it works and the anonymous donation he gives to his students that’s helping them get a head start in life. 349: Sallie Krawcheck, Co-Founder of Ellevest

I'm honored to have a very special guest on the show today. This is someone I wanted to have on the show from before I was even live with So Money. I always had a running wish list of guests, and she was at the top. Now, she is here - Sallie Krawcheck. Do you know Sallie Krawcheck? If you don’t know Sallie Krawcheck, you need to know Sallie Krawcheck. Maybe if you don’t work in the world of finance, you don’t follow business news regularly, you may not have come across her name, but she is a force in this industry. Right now, she is the CEO and co-founder of Ellevest. Ellevest is a soon-to-be launched digital investment platform for women. To me, Sallie has always been the ultimate pioneer for closing the gender wage gap and women’s rights in the work place. With Ellevest, what she’s really trying to do is close the investment wage gap. Sallie is on a very public and professional mission right now to help women reach their financial and professional goals. She’s also the chair of Ellevate Network, a global professional women’s network with thousands of members and growing. I'm actually a member. Sallie serves as the chair of the PAX Elevate Global Woman’s Index Fund which she recently launched and invest in the top rated companies for advancing women. Now, before becoming an entrepreneur, she was the CEO of Merrill Lynch Wealth Management and Smith Barney. So, she knows a thing or two. We want to talk about the gender wage gap and how women invest differently. We also discuss her own financial failures because she’s had some. She is very generous with going down memory lane and giving us those stories to help us avoid the same mistakes. Ellevest is also a really exciting venture. She has a website for us that she mentions during the conversation that we can go to, to try it out and experience it firsthand. For more information visit www.somoneypodcast.com. Hosted on Acast.
