111. Cory Muscara: Lessons From a Monk: How To Stop Missing Your Life

“Presence gives us the capacity to experience what we’re experiencing, but with an internal container that can hold that experience in such a way that we aren’t completely overwhelmed or burdened by it.” I’ve had a long-held goal to interview someone like today’s guest for the podcast. An individual who spent time living in isolation as a monk while living inside the realities of chaos in today’s fast-paced world. So when I met my good friend Cory Muscara a year ago, it felt like divine timing! Cory is an international speaker and teacher on the topics of mindfulness and positive psychology - a journey that began with a desire to impress a girl. This ‘hippy’ college girlfriend sparked Cory’s interest in meditation. After their relationship broke down, Cory’s pain called him to take meditation more seriously. In turn, he spent six months in silence living as a monk in Burma where he’d meditated for over 14 hours a day. As a result of this experience, Cory is now in a beautiful position where he can bridge the gap between monk-like enlightenment - and those of us seeking truth amongst the triggers and challenges of everyday life. A frequent guest on the Dr. Oz show and an instructor of positive psychology at the University of Pennsylvania, Cory’s on a mission to help people embody the principles of mindfulness in a practical and relatable way. His meditations have been heard more than 10 million times in over 50 countries, and he lives on Long Island where he offers workshops and retreats.Cory is also the new author of Stop Missing Your Life. How To Be Deeply Present In An Unpresent World. In this book, Cory offers a roadmap that will help you reconnect with your life in a beautiful way. “The more we take care of each moment as it is, the more we actually take care of the next moment and subsequently the future.” Our conversation gets very meta, but it’s also highly practical. In this deep conversation, Cory explains how to create presence. A state when you experience the fullness of yourself - without shutting down, turning away, or numbing the sensations of the moment. In this episode, you’ll discover: What is presence - and how to deepen into it. Why curiosity is the opposite of fear. What Cory learned about life in a Bermese monastery. How to build a better relationship with the voice inside you. What is intuition? The pebble method that guides you to know what to do at any moment. Why being OK with not being yourself is the ultimate expression of self-love. The problem with trying to transcend the ego before you’ve befriended it.The “Good luck, bad luck - who knows...” parable for a better life. And more…I had so much fun with Cory and I know you’ll love this episode too. Check out this episode now and discover simple secrets for a more fulfilling life. “The opposite of fear is actually curiosity.” How to contact Get Cory’s New Book here: https://stopmissingyourlife.com/www.corymuscara.comwww.facebook.com/corymuscarahttps://www.instagram.com/corymuscarahttps://twitter.com/corymuscaraFor free meditations, book and app recommendations, text your email address to +16314054631. We thrive on your feedback, so if you’ve enjoyed this show, please rate us and leave us a review. 105. Dom P Quartuccio: From Numbness To Greatness. How To Feel Your Way To A Happier Life

“When you hear this thing, "These days, it’s difficult to be a man," don’t buy the bullshit. I think there has never been a better time to be a man than today.” Are you in touch with your feelings? Or do you deliberately ignore or push down your emotions because they’re too difficult to feel? Dominick Quartuccio used to be the alpha male - a ladies man, and a high-performer. He clocked up a 15-year career in financial services and earned a corner office in Times Square. In the traditional sense, Dom was a huge ‘success’. But despite all his achievements, inside he felt restless and numb. Dom realized that he’d shrunk his emotional world so severely; he didn’t know how to feel. As a result, he lost access to the infinite wisdom within. He couldn’t access his intuition and this meant his inner greatness remained locked away. Something had to change... Dom committed to feeling his emotions. He discovered that instead of being ‘evil’, his emotions provided invaluable data. They gave fire and color to his life. This experience caused Dom to walk away from his financial career and create a life more aligned with his purpose. Nowadays, Dom is an international speaker, executive coach, and outspoken leader for high-caliber men doing the inner work. As the co-host of The Great Man podcast, Dom empowers men to confront the life-changing topics most never speak about, but inwardly struggle with. Dom is also the author of Design Your Future and the facilitator of men’s retreats where he helps men design their next decade. “If the only catalyst for change in your life is waiting for some outside force to beat down upon you, then how in control of your life are you really?” In this episode, Dom and I explore: Why it’s a great time to be a manHow Dom ended up in Sex Addicts AnonymousHow you can lean into the courage to feelWhy you’re probably drifting through life - and what to do about it The difference between masculine and feminine energies - and why you need a balance of bothThe first step to discovering your purposeThe two competing men inside you And more…I believe we’re all being called to go deeper and explore the parts of our inner being that will lead to a happier, more fulfilled life. 102. Kelly Fitzsimmons: How To Navigate Big Failures And Come Out On Top

“When we’re in struggle, that’s when our shadow and demons show up and dance.” What happens when you experience a huge failure in business? For many entrepreneurs, failure brings dark times. We’re so used to wrapping our identity around what we do that when things don’t work out, our self-worth plummets. This episode’s guest found herself in this exact situation - putting herself in $5 million of personal debt. In fact, her situation was so challenging, she found herself in a place where she felt she was worth more dead than she was alive. This is the dark side of entrepreneurship - a side that’s not often spoken about in public, but it’s a time when business owners need the most support. So after coming out of the other side of failure, Kelly wrote Lost in Startuplandia: Wayfinding for the Weary Entrepreneur - a book written to share her own experiences and insights about the start-up journey.  So if you’re struggling with failure and you need a boost to help you navigate this all-too-common phase of entrepreneurship, this episode is for you. Tune in now to discover the possibilities that arise when you embrace what failure has to teach you - and how you can survive and thrive, even when you feel knocked down. “Failure itself is not the problem, it’s our relationship with failure. It’s how we hold it, it’s how we define it, or how we let it define us.” When it comes to business success and failure, Kelly has experienced both sides of the spectrum. Kelly is a serial tech entrepreneur, artist, angel investor, and mother of two. She’s the co-founder of Custom Reality Services, a virtual reality (VR) production company whose first two projects, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. She’s also the recipient of the Silvertip PwC Entrepreneurship Award and Speech Technology’s Luminary Award.Check out this episode and discover: The predictable traps for failure - and how to navigate themThe reason YOU get to define what failure meansWhy we’re all liars and how honesty can set you freeHow a brain injury transformed Kelly’s mindset for life [and inspired her to write her book]What to watch for when sharing your truth with othersThe dangers of basing your self-worth on your workAnd more…Kelly experienced spectacular failure, but survived to tell the tale! Instead, it can be the catalyst for a rebirth and a life lived in more alignment with who you are. Don’t miss this one.  “We can succeed in the cultural definition of success with money and fail as a human being.
