191. Raj Jana: Befriending The Inner Critic. A Tale Of Self-Leadership
“Your inner critic is actually meant to serve your brain. It’s not meant to hurt you.” The month of July was hectic, heartbreaking, and healing for me. An incredible friend of mine passed from stage 4 cancer, and yet again, end of life taught me some potent lessons, which I share in this episode. Looking back, it’s clear to me that this month’s events have allowed me to become deeply intimate with the critical, judgy voice in my head. The voice that scolds me for not being enough, not doing enough, or the “fact that I should have known better.” (how many of you are familiar with that one?!)Thanks to these experiences, I was able to gather some deep insights into the role that my inner critic plays in helping me experience the life I desire.“It takes a daring level of vulnerability to own your shortcomings.” I don’t believe that the negative voices in our minds are here to stop us from being happy. And when we can find the compassion in our hearts to hold space for the voice of our inner critics to evolve, we create more holistic internal operating systems that serve our highest and best good while empowering a culture of ease and grace. As usual, my dear friend Georgina El Morshdy is here to hold space, provide reflections, and help us navigate this important conversation about self-leadership and learning how to heal the judgy voice of your inner critic. Here are some of the key takeaways you’ll hear us discuss: What it means to be a leader. Why we have an inner critic and how it keeps us safe. Tristin’s passing, the commissioned painting, and what it taught me about self-trust. Where the voice of judgement originates [and how to spot it in your external world].Judging the ‘Tornado in a t-shirt’. How the inner critic protects you. And more…I hope you find this month’s reflection episode illuminating and thoughtful as you learn to love yourself in deeper and more magical ways. This is the beautiful work that will change your life. If you enjoy this episode, please rate and review the show. You can also DM me on Instagram. 189. Zach Rehder: Cultivating Presence Through The Power Of Your Breath
“The breath knows us better than we know ourselves.” On average we breathe around 20,000 times a day, but how many of those breaths are conscious? Breathwork is a practice that can deepen your awareness, cultivate presence, and help you find, release, and move through discomfort in your body. Best of all, this tool is accessible to all of us and it’s completely free. I’ve been exploring the power of the breath more and more over the past few years. Breath is the thread that flows through so many healing modalities and it always blows my mind how something so simple [and natural] can be profoundly potent and powerful. In this episode, I’m interviewing a breathwork practitioner - Zach Rehder - for a deep dive into the myriad of ways that breathwork can elevate your life. “We’re here to awaken up to our greatness, to who and what we really are.” Zach Rehder is an international teacher, speaker and healer. Through a series of awakenings, he became a channel for messages and energies that heal, unlock and awaken human potential. He provides remote and in-person private sessions for clients from around the globe. Many clients have experienced amazing, inexplicable healings and awakenings through Zach’s programs and sessions. In this episode, Zach and I explore:Why are we so unconscious of our breath? What is the best way to breathe? Why Zach decided to dedicate his life to breathwork. A daily practice that brings more agency to the breath.Learning to be present with the discomfort. The links between meditation and breathwork. What does truth feel like? Leading from presence, not thought. And more…Breath is a powerful way to connect with the present moment and feel more deeply into your body and your being. This beautiful conversation is a gateway into a breathwork practice - and a tool that can serve you in any moment of your life. “Instead of trying to rearrange our life so that we don’t have to feel the discomfort, let’s feel it. 186. Joseph Billotti: Lessons From A Long Life
“The things I’m most grateful for in this moment are actually the lessons and the experiences I had when things were hardest.” One of the things I love most about Stay Grounded is the opportunity it provides to meet people from all walks of life. Over the years, I’ve interviewed some fascinating people, and this episode is no different… Apart from the way that Joseph Billotti and I met. I’ve recently been spending time on the phone connecting with JavaPresse Coffee Club OGs. These are people who’ve been drinking JavaPresse coffee for years and I wanted to know what they love about the brand. 89-year-old Joseph was one of the people I interviewed. “One of the most beautiful parts about life is that there’s so many different ways to do it, and there’s so many adventures to choose and so many different journeys to go on.” What was supposed to be a 15-minute chat about coffee morphed into a deep conversation about life, love, spirituality, service, and more. Joseph has lived a full and colorful life. He’s travelled over the world as a missionary, fought cancer, and cultivated a deep connection with God. His perspective on life inspired me so much that I invited him onto the show. He’s one of Stay Grounded’s oldest guests and I’m so excited for you to hear Joseph's lessons from a long life. In this episode, we explore:Joseph’s journey to connecting with himself. Meaningful coffee rituals. How Joseph starts his day with intention. “Everything is a prayer”. How Joseph inspires faith in life. The roles of forgiveness and gratitude. Joseph's spiritual beliefs, finding God, and understanding the soul. Lessons for beautiful friendships. Joseph’s core message about life after 89 years on this planet.Navigating cancer. And more…It’s a gift to be able to glimpse at life through the eyes of an 89 year old who’s lived through and experienced so much. It’s my hope that you can extract some age-old wisdom for yourself when you listen to this episode. “In the beginning of life, all there is is love, and at the end of life, all there is is love.
