Caryn Gill: OCD, anxiety & therapy with ADHD

Episode 143 with Caryn Gill.“Other people say, ‘Oh, that's on my 5-year plan.’ And I think, I don't have a 5-year plan. It's now or never.”Caryn is a Licensed Professional Counselor who specializes in OCD and anxiety disorders, and now ADHD thanks to her own diagnosis late last year. She currently works in private practice but has worn many hats in the past: as a clinical trainer and educator and as a music therapist working in hospitals and various clinics. She lives and works in Pennsylvania and is also licensed in CT, CA, and MO.Caryn talks about how her diagnosis has changed her work with clients, and her choice to be open about her own diagnosis when some therapists with ADHD tend to "hide in the shadows" about their condition. We also talk about neurodivergent anxiety and burnout and some of the root causes, and the need to develop boundaries and give ourselves space to be under-stimulated and underwhelmed in order to self-regulate and move beyond overwhelm.Website: https://caryngilltherapy.comInstagram: @therapist.carynLinks:Sign up for Caryn’s free crash course on building your counterstrategy to attack OCD and anxiety: https://caryngilltherapy.com- - - - -Episode Sponsors:Green Chef, the #1 Meal Kit for Eating Well. Taylor Elyse Morrison: Building practical skills for self-care

Episode 141 with Taylor Elyse Morrison.“My ADHD is more internal, so I would often worry I was looking for excuses or tricking myself into thinking I had ADHD.”Taylor is a founder, facilitator, coach, and serial entrepreneur making well-being and personal development more accessible. Through her company Inner Workout and her book of the same name, Taylor supports people’s journey to know, care for, and become their full selves. Recently named one of Fortune’s 10 Innovators Shaping the Future of Health, Taylor is tired of aspirational 'wellness as usual.' Instead, she builds businesses, content, and experiences that make well-being and personal development more accessible. Taylor and I talk about why exactly neurodivergent brains struggle with self-care and so often end up in burnout mode. We talk about how self-concept and self-talk lead to emotional dysregulation, how to listen to our bodies and what they’re actually telling us, and the importance of community and support when it comes to self-care (and what that looks like when you have ADHD).Website: innerworkout.coInstagram: @taylorelysemorrison ; @innerworkoutLinks: Taylor’s book, Inner WorkoutTaylor’s FREE Take Care assessmentTaylor's Begin Within group coaching application- - - - -Episode Sponsor:This episode is brought to you by Llama Life, the beautifully-designed, simple, and flexible app that uses time-boxing to help keep you focused as you work through your To Do list. Jennifer Salzman: Alcohol addiction & ADHD coping strategies

Episode 140 with Jennifer Salzman.“The alcohol was dulling the anxiety and the stress, but it was also dulling the joy and the happiness.”When Jennifer was diagnosed with adult ADHD in her 40s she realized that she had spent more than 20 years self-medicating her symptoms with alcohol. Drinking was the easiest and fastest way to shut off the constant chatter in her brain. She also discovered that alcohol abuse among people with ADHD is much more common than it is in people without the condition. Jennifer now coaches others to help them find freedom from alcohol, gain a new outlook on life, and improve their relationship with themselves and their neurodivergent brains. We talk about our own experiences with alcohol abuse, the link between ADHD and substance abuse, the dangers of mixing alcohol with stimulant medications, why AA isn’t always neurodivergent-friendly, and some of the ways we can develop healthier coping mechanisms for managing ADHD.  Website: amightyrebel.comInstagram: @rebelwithoutadrinkLinks: The Rebel Reboot: rebelwithoutadrink.com- - - - -Episode Sponsor:This episode is brought to you by Llama Life, the beautifully-designed, simple, and flexible app that uses time-boxing to help keep you focused as you work through your To Do list. Diana Costea: Authenticity, acceptance & the road less traveled

Episode 135 with Diana Costea.“Society wants us to focus on one thing and do it well, but that will never be me.”Diana is a 22-year-old from Romania. She has a degree in psychology and is currently volunteering in Turkey as a youth worker and English teacher with the European Solidarity Corps Program.Diana discovered her ADHD a little over a year ago, and since then, she feels she finally has the courage to allow herself to be different and instead of minimizing or masking it, to befriend her neurodivergence and help others see the world through different angles.Diana has also started a career as a personal development coach, where she supports and guides young or aspiring entrepreneurs in their career journeys. We talk about authenticity & radical acceptance, learning how to ask for help, and finding and developing our own paths, despite what others might expect from us.Website: https://costeadiana482.wixsite.com/pscyhandstories Instagram: @psychandstories_diana- - - - -Episode Sponsor:This episode is brought to you by Llama Life, the beautifully-designed, simple, and flexible app that uses time-boxing to help keep you focused as you work through your To Do list.
