Syndicated real estate deals can be complicated and can look like a lot of legal mumbo jumbo, but you CAN make sense of it all with a few good pointers! And that’s what you’re going to get in this interview – a short-but-sweet overview of the syndicated real estate deal in language you can understand. Our guest is a syndication lawyer who will explain things like capital calls and how to deal with them, the difference between a private placement memorandum and an operating agreement, and why it’s so important to look at how the syndicators are defining their terms. One of those oh-so-important terms is the “preferred return.” You definitely want to understand that one!  Attorney Bethany LaFlam describes herself as a seasoned deal lawyer, a conscious wealth creator, a real estate investor, and a mother. She has more than 20 years of experience practicing law and is currently a managing partner for the Premier Law Group, which focuses mostly on real estate syndications and funds. I love getting together with long-time real estate investing friends. Welcome to a very special episode of The Real Wealth Show. Today, we dive into a personal story about how I got into real estate and the real estate professional who opened so many doors for me and became my mentor. It’s a story about how we came together as co-hosts of a wealth building radio show many years ago, how both of us turned challenges into opportunities, and how he helped me during a very difficult time in my life, although he claims that he also learned a lot from me!   This special guest is real estate investor, home builder, mortgage broker, mentor, coach trainer, and best-selling author Gary Massari. He got his start a long time ago at Falender Properties. Gary would find the land and then work with his company subdividing and selling the lots to builders. He’s currently the CEO of REI Homes & ADU’s out of Danville, California which specializes in the construction of energy efficient smart homes and ADUs. And he’s the CEO of REI Fortunes which teaches people how to create debt free wealth.   Back in the early days as my radio show co-host, he also taught financial wealth principles to our more than 25,000 weekly listeners, including me. I was a stay-at-home mom at the time who was suddenly launched into the role of breadwinner and needed to figure out a way to support two young daughters and a husband going through a medical crisis. I’m eternally grateful for all that Gary taught me.
