A Reason for Hope for Veterans with Lt. Gen Martin Steele and Brett Waters
LtGen Martin Steele (retired) and Brett Waters, Co-Founders of Reason for Hope, an advocacy group, are advancing legislation and policy proposals on issues related to psychedelic medicine and assisted therapies on behalf of combat veterans and families that have suffered due to substance abuse disorders.
As opioid settlement funds begin to become available [pbs.org], there is a noticeable movement brewing across several US states and amongst bipartisan government officials to allocate those dollars to explore research and establish treatment centers offering psychedelic-assisted therapy to treat OUD.
Together, General Steel and Mr. Waters are the frontline advocates working with governors and attorneys general in states like Arizona and Kentucky to pass legislation and secure nearly $50M in funding for these lifesaving treatments. Reason For Hope’s work has also reached the Federal government where they have introduced the Breakthrough Therapies Act (HR 1393) which would eliminate the many outdated hurdles researchers face when it comes to working with psychedelics that have shown therapeutic promise – like ibogaine, psilocybin and MDMA.
LtGen Steele is a former high ranking official in the Marines, speaks to how these therapies could impact the military and veteran communities, which have for years struggled with serious mental health issues like addiction, PTSD and major depression disorder. How Dr. Ryan Peebles Healed More Than a Decade of Back Pain
Meet Dr. Ryan Peebles, DPT
I was ashamed, embarrassed, and angry. I had done everything to take care of my back, and yet I was broken.
Back problems cast a shadow over my life for a decade. That time was painful, but it was also a journey of growth, where I developed an ever-evolving, deepening understanding of the body, which I will share with you.
It all started when lower back pain side-lined me from playing basketball as a junior in high school. I couldn’t lift weights anymore. And I couldn’t pursue my passion of surfing because I felt nerve damage every time I went.
“I have a bad back.” ....I hated those words.
When I was at my lowest point, and my body felt like it was breaking down, I never imagined that one day I would be surfing again. And I definitely never would have believed that I could ride waves as big as the ones I'm riding today.
It's been over 10 years since I found my solution, and my body feels younger and healthier than ever. And I want that for you, too.
That's why I created this program. Not just to get you out of pain. Because getting rid of the pain is only part of it.
The real question is, what does living the life you love look like?
What has your back pain made you give up?
What would it mean for you to get that back?
Close your eyes. Imagine it. Keep that vision in your mind.
Focus on the goal of getting back to it, and let that drive you. Because without the motivation to get surfing back, none of this would have happened for me. And I believe 100% that you can get back to doing what you love, too.
I want to help you break out of the downward spiral of pain. I want to teach you what is happening in your body, so you can reverse it and live without the pain. EndoDNA: Where Genetic Science Meets Actionable Patient Care

About Kate Eckman
While working for nearly a decade as a TV news anchor and reporter, I interviewed hundreds of prominent newsmakers, including President Barack Obama and Angelina Jolie. As a writer, I've contributed articles to Woman’s Day Magazine, Redbook Magazine, Forbes, mindbodygreen, the Huffington Post and elephant journal, to name a few. From TV presenter it was a short hop into modeling and soon I was working as a television personality and brand ambassador. But my energy and drive wouldn’t let me stay only in front of the camera, and I began moving into entrepreneurship and business, as well. I’ve helped multiple global beauty brands shape their vision and strategy, and I recently led the team behind the launch of QVC’s first and only proprietary beauty brand, which made more than four million dollars in sales on its first day.
All of these experiences have made me who I am today and inform my strategy for helping students and clients find their path to success, within and without. EndoDNA: Where Genetic Science Meets Actionable Patient Care
