Mindset is Your Shield- Back-to-School Series

I KNOW it's only the beginning of July, BUT we need to prepare NOW for when school starts back up in a few months! Have you ever heard "Mindset Matters!?" Well, there is so much truth to that statement and I want to jumpstart my new Back-to-School Series with it! Sometimes we try to jump straight to "have a growth mindset!" And I wish it were that easy!! BUT your inner script is built over time and if it is built with nagative self- talk, criticism, and false beliefs about yourself, then it's hard to just change that script! It takes time and a lot of intentional practice!!!  So before the next school year gets started, lets gear up, show up, and shine bright with the armor we need to succeed in that school environment!  In this episode, we talk all about externalizing those negative thought cycles and intentionally practicing on a regular basis reframed thoughts that drive you in a direction of hope, joy, peace, and unconditional confidence. Again, this take practice, but research shows that our brains CAN be rewired with daily thought control, redirection and a daily sprinkle of gratitude!  Stick with me as we adventure through this back to school series, where we will continue to collect the armor needed to fight any battle ahead, while finding peace and joy in the process! Visit me at www.katelynmabry.com to reach out with your own experiences and I would love to have you featured on a future show! Kids love to hear from other kids! Have a great day! Love you all!

Taming Technology- Summer Series

WOHOO Summer time is here! It's a great time to keep our bodies moving and our mind calm! BUT wait, sometimes we are faced with day to day battles and that is why I am coming to you with a brand new Summer series with tons of tips, tricks and strategies to make this the best summer yet as you defeat the giants you may come up against... In this episode, we are going to start with the biggest battle in many of our homes... TAMING TECHNOLOGY! Whether you like video games, have a favorite show or get sucked into YouTube shorts...this is a SUPER important topic to talk about to come up with a way to thrive day by day in your mind, body and emotions! Technology has it's benefits, but for those of us with ADHD, it's also a huge trigger for dysregulation and the overstimulation of it can quickly throw us into fight or flight mode. Too much tech time can also turn off our creativity and kindness...which gets replaced with reactivity by our big emotions. It can increase impulsivity, make it hard to decision make, and causes a battle in tackling day to day tasks because our executive function skills are even weaker due to overstimulation!  I have good news for you though, there are ways to tame it and have a much happier, healthier relationship with it this summer! Colloboratively problem solve what these 3 L's could look like in your day to day routine... Limit: Create clear expectations and boundaries on technology use each day. Be sure there is more movement/outside time and the time spent has purpose... Leverage: Use technology to help you learn and grow a skill, spend time on it connecting with friends, or use it as an incentive after working on other tasks throughout your structured day! Leave: Reflect on the apps and games that you have on your different types of technology. Are they helpful or at all hurtful. What do you need to leave to be sure you are feeding your mind with things that will exercise your thinking vs. cause overstimulation and addictive tendencies.    Parent Resource: Check out "Reset Your Child's Brain: End meltdowns, raise grades, and boost social skills by reversing the effects of electronic screen time" by: Dr. Victoria Dunkley Connect with me at www.katelynmabry.com to check out my kids book, or to reach out and learn more about my 1:1 coaching program. Calming Your Mind with Connection

"We are hard-wired to connect with others, it's what gives purpose and meaning to our lives, without it, there is suffering." ~Brene Brown (social worker, world renowned speaker). This is how God desiged us, we are created for CONNECTION!  Do you agree!? Sometimes we CRAVE connection, but have a hard time creating it!  I know I do and have a daily experience with this too! When I feel connected, I feel more regulated, when I feel disconnected, I start to spiral into dysregulation!  Bottom line, disconnection leads to dysregulation in all areas of life!  The good news is that we CAN takes steps toward more intentional connection...Let's practice these three steps... FIGURE out if you in fact are disconnected... Are you feeling distant from others? Are you feeling irritable or just plain funky at home or at school? Are your grades dropping? If so, throw up the red flag of disconnection... NOW WHAT? FIND a way to connect... Ask trusted adult or green light friends to hang out, email teachers pictures from your weekend to connect with when you get back to school, invite others to do something your intereste drived brain loves to do with you!  FALL into the HABIT of intentionall connecting with others... Make plans with green light friends or trusted adult ahead of time to create playful opportunities throughout the week.  When we are intentional with connection, we can stay on top of our regulation and just overall feel better from day to day!!  Reach out to me through my website www.katelynmabry.com to share your connection story.  Also check out our sponsor Calm Strips @ www.calmstrips.com. Calming Your Anxious Mind One Thought at a Time

Do you have thoughts that race like a really fast car and you find yourself worried about things near and far!? If so, you are not alone and so many of us have these thoughts and feelings too!  In this episode, we will practice capturing that first thought that is spiraling us into a state of worry! We will practice speaking truth to that thought, regulate to find calm, and then release the thought so that it can be reframed to a thought that will take us down a road of less worry and more hope for the future! I also share a sneak peek of some pages from a book I am working on... Practice makes progress and I know all of us have different levels and experiences with this thing called Anxiety, but I also know that you can intentionally take steps to grab hold of control over those thoughts driving those intense feelings!
