S1E7: TSMC and Taiwan's semiconductor industry, all started 40 years ago at a soy milk restaurant
Warren Buffett announced last week that he bought TSMC Stock - American Depositary Receipts (ADR), which is worth more than 4.1 billion dollars. This is a rare major investment in the technology sector by Buffett's conglomerate. How is TSMC favored by international investors? Be Everyone's Foundry, that is the main strategy of TSMC. In the 1980s, Taiwanese government planned to cultivate the semiconductor industry for Taiwan's economic development. Then, TSMC was founded. TSMC's achievement lies in changing the global semiconductor division of labor. Before Morris Chang, wafer foundry was considered an impossible task since customers were afraid of leaking or plagiarizing chip designs, so they were reluctant to hand over chips to foundries for manufacturing. However, TSMC has persuaded a huge number of companies with its high-standard integrity management. TSMC has now become the largest semiconductor fabrication plant in the world. Outline : 📀 Beginning: reasons behind TSMC’s foundation 📀 Development: significant players in TSMC’s history 📀 Competition: ITRI, UMC and TSMC 📀 Summit: No.1 semiconductor manufacturer in the world 📀 Reflection: the inspiration of TSMC’s huge success Host:Asianometry, Deep tech channel with 350k followers, still growing Guest: Tim Koay, Historian on Taiwan Early Stage Semiconductor Initiative 👉More news of Taiwan startups: https://meetstartup.pse.is/4jhd5u 👉Follow us on LinkedIn: https://meetstartup.pse.is/4hhbhg 📪 Email us: global@bnext.com.tw Leave a comment and share your thoughts: https://open.firstory.me/user/cl8jubp5t01v601sl4vys57dj/comments Powered by Firstory Hosting

S1E6: Taiwan's supply chain facilitates the growth of space industry
With the advent of the global space age, countries are competing with each other for a foothold in outer space. What role does Taiwan play in this space competition? Among the 105 low earth orbit satellites launched by Space X in January 2022, one of them is a " spherical-motor-based " microsatellite developed by Taiwanese space startup Tensor Technology. The 22-year-old founder of Tensor Technology, Thomas Yen and his entrepreneurial partners have built the world's one and only spherical motor for commercial use. Through their satellite attitude control system, it saves 2/3 of the space and volume of the satellite, and nearly save one hundred thousand dollars cost in one launch. Yen also mentions that the advantages of developing the space industry in Taiwan are that the electronics industry is well-founded, the OEM supply chain is complete and intensive, and components can be produced quickly. For example, after a product is designed in Taipei, it can be produced in the Hsinchu Science Industrial Park. The two places are close to each other so that they can often communicate and coordinate with manufacturers in person to ensure the quality of product. Outline : 🚀What is Tensor’s main mission and idea? 🚀What kind of product does Tensor provide? 🚀Why satellite minimization matters? 🚀What are the advantages of Taiwan’s supply chain? 🚀The future of space industry Host: Uly Su, Entrepreneur In Residence @Business Next Media Corp.
