59. Save the soil, save the world! A chat with the director of The Need To Grow

Did you know that we have merely 60 years left of growable soil? That is if we continue doing farming the way we do today, with destructive practices like tilling, mono-cropping, and fertilizer use. The good thing is that soil has an incredible ability to regenerate itself and that it's hungry for carbon. And if it's something we have way too much of in our atmosphere today, it's just that. So by changing our agricultural practices and build for healthy soils, we can create a machine that will not only grow more nutrient dense foods, but also help sequester all the CO2 currently stored in our air.In other words - no only do we have the ability to save the soil, but if we do, the soil might very well save us.This is live Q&A with Rob Herring, the director of the incredible film The Need To Grow. If you haven't seen the film already I highly recommend you watch it - head over to www.theneedtogrow.com and start getting excited about soil!If you want to participate in more thing like this and learn how to empower yourself as a change-maker and activist, check out The Action Squad. The term "vote with your dollar" is starting to become fairly well-known. People understand that how they spend their money and what companies and products they support matters. But what most people don't know is that we must also pay attention to what our money is doing when it's just sitting in our banks. Because (and this might come as a surprise to many, as it did to me) it's not just sitting there, it's out in the world doing stuff. Your money funds thing. So, what exactly is your money funding? That's exactly what we're about to get into in this episode with Benjamin Stuart, Chief Marketing Officer at Bank of The West and an expert on this topic. 53. Setting Goals for a Sustainable Fashion World with Kerry Bannigan

Did you know that it takes 713 gallons of water, 1/3 LBS of pesticides, and 13 LBS of carbon to make ONE t-shirt? Crazy, right? Also, did every year, about half a million tonnes of plastic microfibers leak into our oceans from washing synthetics - the equivalent to 50 million plastic bottles. These crazy facts don't even mention the inhumane and unethical practices that goes into making a majority of our clothes, so needless to say, fashion is a dirty industry. But it doesn't have to be that way, and I'm thrilled to have Kerry Bannigan, the woman behind The Conscious Fashion Campaign, on Hey Change. We chat about UN's sustainability goals, the human element for change, and what needs to be done to change Fashion Week for the better. If you want to learn more about the fashion industry and what you can do to start becoming a more conscious fashionista, check out my List & Guides on Hey Change World: https://heychange.world/lists-guides-1Kerry is the Founder of the Conscious Fashion Campaign, an organization that in collaboration with the United Nations, is engaging leading global industry event stakeholders to commit to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. 52. There is Hope for Our Planet - Restoring Ecosystems and Our Human Faith with Renee Peters

Is there hope for our planet or should we consider it game over? If you were starting to doubt, make sure to tune into this conversation with Renee Peters and she will undoubtedly bring back your faith!"It's incredible to see how fast soil comes back to life when humans get to work with it the right way. For the longest time I thought we were the problem, then I realized that if done the right way - we can actually be the solution."Renee Peters is an Earth activist who––after a decade working as a fashion model in NYC and all over the world––realized a deep yearning to return to Nature. With an undergrad degree in Animal Biology, last summer she decided to follow her calling to explore the potentials of permaculture and regenerative agriculture for ecosystem restoration. She took a Permaculture Design course in Vermont with Whole Systems Design and subsequently completed a two-month apprenticeship on a Homestead near Albany; a four-month WWOOF exchange on a permaculture production farm in Maui, HI; and is currently deepening her practices with permaculture as a Forest Garden Apprentice in Highland, NY.No longer modeling, Renee seeks to show her following on social media that transitioning to a completely different field of work is possible, no matter what your age is. She also hopes to show that reconnecting and working with the land is a change that not only benefits the planet, but also benefits the soul and personal health and happiness.Follow Renee:Website: http://www.model4greenliving.com/Instagram: @Renee.ElizabethPetersTwitter: @model4greenLVNGMentioned in the show:Terra Preta: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terra_preta (Humans positive impact on the Amazonian rainforest)NY Times article: Make a compost bin at homeStay in touch:ANNE THERESE Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/annetheresegennari/HEY CHANGE Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/heychangeworld/Website: https://www.heychange.world/ Hosted on Acast. 50. The Climate Optimist Class #1 - The Art of Retruthing

Changing the narrative around climate change is imperative if we are to aim for a regenerative future. We can't continue to just pump fear and point fingers (let’s face it, we’ve all been wrong) and there's no point in piling evidence of our inevitable disaster unless we're given the clear directions of what to do.Fear + uncertainty = anxiety + apathy. Which means a bunch of unhappy people unable to get to action. Reversing global warming is not just possible - it's our only option - and we need to start looking at it from excitement and understand that it is, in fact, the most exciting time ever to be alive!I want to help shift your Universe so that you can feel good about being here, alive and thriving on this planet today. Not despite all the terrible things humanity has done, but because of all the good things we are here to do. I invite you to start your own personal journey towards becoming a happy, healthy, and mission driven Climate Optimist. In The Climate Optimist Class #1 we will uncover why optimism is needed in the world today and how we can start changing our personal worlds through the practice of retruthing. I would love to see your retruthings as you go about and transform your worlds! Please tag me - @annetheresegennari and @heychangeworld and encourage friends and families to start #retruthing their worlds as well! For updates and positive inspiration, sign up to the Climate Optimist Newsletter.
