There are many things that come to me each week that I'd like to share in hopes of engaging more with the listeners. How did this come to be and Who is Standing in the Way of Those Keeping Us Safe?Deon Joseph, who has been referred to as "the Angel of Skid Row", is someone who knows something about public safety. In fact, he is someone who knows an awful lot about public safety and has a lot to say about why we are currently facing unprecedented increases in crime in most of our major cities, and why we are seeing an all out assault on law enforcement by groups like BLM and ANTIFA. This week I had the honor of sitting down with Officer Deon Joseph of the LAPD to discuss his thoughts on what we are currently facing, not only in Los Angeles but all over our great nation.Who is Deon Joseph?Officer Deon Joseph is a law enforcement consultant who has worked for the LAPD for over 25 years, twenty-three of those years in downtown Los Angeles’ Skid Row community. From patrolling the streets or providing a shoulder for the community to lean on to meeting with public figures and advocating for change, Deon is driven to create an environment conducive to change for the homeless and those trying to reclaim their lives from the grip of addiction. Not only have a had a series of great guests lately, guests who's passions are doing things to better the world in which we live, but over the past couple weeks I, along with my beautiful wife have participated in a couple charity motorcycle rides.Riding motorcycle has been a passion of mine since I was a little kid. I bought my first motorcycle when I was 10 years old with money I earned on my own. Being a kid who grew up in a working poor home, this was a great accomplishment.  If you'd like, you can actually read more about that by checking out the blog post "In Memory of my Departed Father on his 57th Birthday" that I wrote several years ago. Nowadays, one of my great passions is getting to ride my Harley-Davidson with my wife, which is often limited to a couple charity rides each year. Over the past couple weeks, we have participated in 2 charity motorcycle rides that have benefited veterans charities and inspired me to do this episode.I also talk in this episode of my days back in Florida when I first began riding in charity rides starting with the Boggy Creek Camp ride for the children.  Participating in these types of events are such a great way to combine our passions with doing good for others! We are not meant in this life to simply live, but to live fully! I for one truly believe that the United States of America is the greatest nation on God's green earth, and it's high time people stop allowing divisive forces to put labels upon us, and we all just start acting like Americans again. It's so hard to believe it was that long ago, but harder to believe all I've seen and done over those 29 years. The years have passed and many things have changed, but much of what I learned about life in my late teens and early twenties came as the result of working for my dear friends Rick and his wife Jean at their restaurant RJ's Bar & Grill in Okoboji, IA.This week Rick re-posted a quote from Anthony Bourdain (posted by The Ritz, another bar/restaurant in the Okoboji Lakes area) that really stood out to me. The quote really hit home for a number of reasons and brought back many memories. I lost my father 11 years ago, but I was fortunate and blessed enough to have him in my life up until my mid 30s. Many children are not fortunate enough to have a father in their life at all. This is one of the major problems we face as a society. Much more of an issue than most of the nonsense we're lead to believe are the great problems we face today.Being a father has been the greatest gift and honor of my lifetime and reading to my daughter daily is one of my great joys. I recently had a conversation with my wife about a book my daughter has me read to her all the time, several times a week in fact. The book is a different version of the classic lullaby "Hush Little Baby". This wonderful book was written by Sylvia Long.
