Restoring the Future Through Embodied Trauma Integration

Thomas Hübl explores how trauma changes our experience of time, and how integration and acceptance can help us create a better future. When traumatic events occur in the present moment, we become overwhelmed, and our experience of "presence" is split, pushing the trauma into the subconscious realm.  He explains that our compartmentalized trauma is like a data package that becomes stuck in the past, interrupting the flow of time like a rock in a river. As we go through life, we experience tension, numbness, and absence-- repetitive difficulties influenced by the trauma embedded in our past. Thomas provides insight into how we can embrace and integrate our pain and our defense mechanisms, and how that is a more healing and effective way to create change than trying to get rid of them. Key Points: 01:05 The notion of presence and integrated history 05:13 How trauma is compartmentalized 08:52 Fragmented data becomes repetitive patterns 11:38 Projecting the future 18:42 Onboard the past for a better future 21:11 Cultivate a fertile land for inner change ---------------- Thomas Hübl is a renowned teacher, author, and international facilitator whose lifelong work integrates the core insights of the great wisdom traditions and mysticism with the discoveries of science. Thomas is joined by restorative justice facilitator and public speaker sujatha baliga. She reveals that her work is not only more effective in addressing the root causes of crime, and reducing repeated incidents of harm, but is also planting seeds for a radically more just future. Key Points: 01:48 Sujatha’s journey to her advocacy 08:18 Restorative justice vs. the current justice system 11:40 What it means to be well-resourced 16:52 Restorative justice is sustainable 19:57 The factors to facilitate a restorative process 25:56 The responsibility of the oppressed 34:12 Transformation starts within us 37:40 How can communities contribute? 44:25 Addressing collective issues with restorative justice --------------- sujatha baliga’s work is characterized by an equal dedication to people who’ve experienced and caused harm and violence. William Ury - Russia, Ukraine, & the Vicious Cycle of Humiliation & Trauma

Please note that this episode was recorded during the first months of the war in Ukraine, and William and Thomas' commentary is relevant to that time. Since then, circumstances may have changed. Humiliation is reflected in most major historical events, especially in wars. Throughout the centuries, humans continue to be stuck in the same pattern of humiliation. And it has become even more significant in the present. With COVID-19 bringing a sense of interconnectedness and the whole world tuning in to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, author and anthropologist William Ury dissects the root cause of this cycle. He explains that empathy is our most powerful tool in negotiation, as it enables us to understand our "opponents" and communicate with them effectively. *Please note that this episode was recorded during the first months of the war in Ukraine, and William and Thomas' commentary is relevant to that time. As the co-founder of the Program on Negotiation, he is a driving force behind many new negotiation theories and practices.
