The Art of Attunement

Thomas Hübl further expands on Attunement– a relational mindfulness practice that allows our nervous systems to feel one another and transmit many layers of information. He explains that each of us contains a rich inner world that we must get to know in order to attune with others. When we create inner calm, we also create a safe space where we can be fully present with people in their authentic entirety. These attuned environments can lead to entire ecosystems of Attunement where deep emotional connections are fostered over time. Thomas also explores how Attunement grants us greater social agency, or the ability to effectively transmit our inner gifts to the outer world. This quality is essential to activism and change-making as it deepens our care for the world and enables us to take action. Key Points: 00:00 Introduction 03:21 What is attunement? 06:38 Creating safety and social impact 08:35 Creating ecosystems of attunement 10:24 Precision is love 12:31 Enriching life and cultivating presence 14:45 Attunement breeds citizens with a purpose 16:54 Appreciating quietness to encourage growth 18:10 Balancing one’s needs with the world's needs Sign up for updates by visiting our website: 👉 pointofrelationpodcast.com ✨ Order Thomas Hübl’s new book, “Attuned: Practicing Interdependence to Heal Our Trauma–And Our World” and get free gifts when you follow the steps in the link below: 👉 attunedbook.com ✨ Sign up for Thomas' new self-paced online course: The Art of Attunement 👉 artofattunementcourse.com Thomas Hübl is a renowned teacher, author, and international facilitator whose lifelong work integrates the core insights of the great wisdom traditions and mysticism with the discoveries of science. Stephen Gyllenhaal | Healing Trauma Through Resonance and Storytelling

According to filmmaker and founder of the Identity Development Institute, Stephen Gyllenhaal, “The best instrument in the world is another human being.” In this episode, he and Thomas discuss the importance of resonance to trauma healing. Similar to attunement, resonance involves communication between nervous systems wherein our bodies transmit our pain to others within a safe and open environment. This is also the basis for the Intention Method (IoPT) sessions that changed Stephen’s life and inspired him to start training others in this unique methodology. He explains that early traumas make positive change and evolution difficult, and how being present in connection with others has allowed him to experience profound healing.  He and Thomas also discuss how the art of cinema is a form of resonance, and the themes of galactic resonance that are explored in his upcoming documentary, The Universe Sings. Key Points: 00:45 Movies as an expression of trauma 06:54 Trauma travels generations 11:24 Healing requires digging at the core 18:45 The human being as an attuned resonator 24:52 Resonance is presence 28:36 Film and TV representations of trauma 37:18 How media creates spaces for conversation 41:46 The way to trauma healing   Stephen Gyllenhaal is a film director, poet, and Founding Director of the Identity Development Institute, which aims to grow a community of practitioners, researchers, and educators that integrate trauma in facilitating healthy identities. Krista Tippett - The Transformative Power of Language

Thomas is joined by Peabody Award-winning broadcaster, New York Times bestselling author, and the host of On Being, Krista Tippett.  They discuss the virtues of hospitality, humility, and creativity in spirituality, and in creating spaces where deep subjects and emotions can safely emerge. Krista explains how her upbringing and work as a journalist have shown her the need for human civilization to outgrow our binary ways of thinking and have the courage to hold contradictions and complexities. She and Thomas explore how humanity can mature and spiritually evolve, starting from within ourselves and our bodies, and expanding into an understanding of the shared traumas of our past. They discuss the continuing legacy of racial trauma that began with slavery, and how the progress of civil rights is being impeded by our collective unwillingness to fundamentally change our way of life.  Krista maintains, despite the horrors of history, that “hope is not wishful thinking,” but a necessary trait of those who inspire us to transform for the better. Key Points: 00:00 Introduction 02:16 The power of language in trauma healing 06:20 Creating spaces conducive to safety 14:44 How healing trauma creates presence 21:10 Finding tools to integrate stored trauma 26:29 Lessons from Germany and Holocaust Survivors 36:42 An aspirational sign of societal maturity 44:08 Solidarity through action 48:49 The need for a spiritual anchor for healing Krista Tippett is a Peabody Award-winning broadcaster, a National Humanities Medalist, and a New York Times bestselling author. She attended Brown University and became a journalist and diplomat in Cold War Berlin. After studying theology at Yale Divinity School in the early 1990s, she saw a black hole where intelligent public conversation about the religious, spiritual, and moral aspects of human life might be. She launched Speaking of Faith — later On Being — as a weekly national public radio show in 2003. What launched on two radio stations grew to over 400 across the U.S. and has received the highest honors in broadcasting, the Internet, and podcasting.  💬 Get in touch with Krista Tippett. Key Points: 00:00 Introduction 00:52 Rhonda's history with mindfulness 06:23 Positive benefits of mindfulness practice 11:01 Soulful mindfulness 20:26 The roots of soul in Black American history 29:20 How trauma affects healthy attachment 34:26 The ethics of trauma healing 40:26 What's needed in healing spaces 48:31 Being a lifelong learner and staying curious 54:37 The power of our oceans Rhonda V. For 20+ years, Professor Magee has studied mindfulness, its underlying origins in Buddhism, and its potential benefits and applications in the world. She has been exploring the integration of mindfulness into teaching and learning, and social engagement, including in support of personal and collective healing, activism, and leadership. Creating Inner and Outer Coherence

Thomas Hübl explores the concepts of Inner and Outer Coherence and the role they play in relationships and communication. He describes inner coherence as the capacity to understand our own inner experience, resonate with others, and feel whole. It’s a function of our nervous system that combines external sensory information with our internal thoughts and emotions.  He explains that inner coherence leads to outer coherence- it creates a space for us to be present, empathetic, and share openly with others. But when we become triggered or defensive, the bridges between us collapse, making it hard to feel other people, and leaving us stuck re-enacting or projecting our wounds from the past.  According to Thomas, by understanding and regulating our inner worlds, we can work together to manifest a better future. Key Points: 00:24 Inner Coherence creates Outer Coherence 02:24 Relational intelligence and transparent communication 04:47 The importance of developing inner awareness 07:46 Coherence transforms our presencing ability 09:25 How trauma hinders resonance and what to do about it 12:27 Why coherence is needed for social impact 14:32 Attunement breeds resilience and growth ✨ Order Thomas Hübl’s new book, “Attuned: Practicing Interdependence to Heal Our Trauma–And Our World” and get free gifts when you follow the steps in the link below: 👉 https://www.attunedbook.com/   Sign up for updates by visiting our website: 👉 pointofrelationpodcast.com   Thomas Hübl is a renowned teacher, author, and international facilitator whose lifelong work integrates the core insights of the great wisdom traditions and mysticism with the discoveries of science.
