146: How Philosophy and Ethics Must Redefine “Good Parenting” With Author Dr Elizabeth Cripps

What does it mean to be a “good parent” by today’s northern hemisphere, privileged standards?  Good grades, good jobs, good car, and house. What if that is all wrong? What if that is actually contributing to the downfall of civilization?  Dr Elizabeth Cripps, a parent herself, applied her educational training in philosophy to try to answer how we solve global problems like climate change, pandemics, antibiotic resistance, and social inequity by the way we parent and use our collective power for the good of our children but also for all. We had a great discussion about all of that, as well as her latest book, “A Philosopher’s Guide to Doing Right by Your Kids – and Everyone Else”.  Check out some of these great organizations for social action: https://parentsforfuture.orghttps://www.momscleanairforce.orghttps://ourkidsclimate.org/And keep following Dr Cripps work here: on twitter at @ebcripps www.elizabethcripps.weebly.comIf you enjoy my podcast, please like, share and/or write a review! Also, check out The Daily Adler e-newsletter and podcast so you can get inspirational personal development in your inbox daily! https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/daily-adler/id1671211692https://dailyadler.com Hosted on Acast. 145: Non-Consensual Disclosure of Intimate Images – New Protections

Every parent needs to be aware of the possibility that their child may have an intimate photo being distributed without their consent, and the harmful effects this causes. In this episode, I talk with British Columbia’s Attorney General, Niki Sharma, to discuss the alarming rise in sexploitation and the work she has done in B.C. to protect the rights of victims of sexual violence. Minister Sharma announced new legislation that removes the previous barriers to getting those images removed and better legal recourse for the platforms that host them.To read a copy of the letter from the Minister’s office, visit: https://news.gov.bc.ca/files/Intimate_Images_Protection_Act_Letter.pdfTo learn more about the Intimate Images Protection Act, visit: https://gov.bc.ca/ProtectingYourImagesTo read about supports available for survivors of gender-based violence, sexual assault, or domestic violence, visit: https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/safety/public-safety/domestic-violenceTo access resources and research about the online sexual exploitation of children, visit: https://cybertip.ca/en/If you have a question for me, email me at alyson@alysonschafer.com Check out more free parenting advice on my blog at www.alysonschafer.com Sign up for my monthly newsletter at www.alysonschafer.com and receive a free “Home Responsibilities by Age” checklist. 141: Naturist Families - Understanding The Philosophy, Lifestyle, And Values

This is one of my longer podcasts because I was intrigued with the compelling content of the discussion I had with Stéphane Deschênes, founder of the Bare Oaks Family Naturist Park and President of the International Naturist Federation. I caught up with him in Paris, France.  I learned more about the motivation behind living as naturist. Turns out it holds many Adlerian principles at its core too. We discussed the benefits for children, which is especially important given the growing rates of mental health issues for children with body image issues.  Stéphane also discusses the irrational parental fear that some parents have regarding how safe his and other parks around the world are.  A fascinating episode! You can learn more about Bare Oaks Family Naturist Park at their website here. And follow them on social media at: IG @bareoaksYouTube BareOaks Hosted on Acast.
