From the Archives: Dave Scott
Dave Scott is already well known for his achievements - 6 time winner of Ironman Hawaii between 1980 and 1987, successful coach to champion athletes like Chrissie Wellington, Craig Alexander, Tim Don and Julie Dibens.
What is less well known is his ongoing battle with depression that has, at times, left him unable to get off the couch. Dave is open and honest about the challenges he’s faced - how, despite the World regarding him as ‘The Man’, and his countless race successes, striving for perfection and falling short often left him feeling worthless. And he also shares about how, with time, he’s come to see things differently, how his children have helped him, and how, in turn, he’s managed to help other highly driven and obsessive athletes find a little more balance - as well as World Championship victories.
We also hear Dave’s thoughts on the efforts of the PTO and their aim of making the sport more professional.

What’s it really like to race in the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii?
This week is the Kona Race Week Special. Coach Rob is joined by Coach Chris, to talk about the athlete experience in Kona. Chris raced there in 2019 at the last Ironman World Championships, so we hear all about his experience as an athlete. We also talk about the ways that an athlete can best prepare themselves for the heat and humidity of racing in Kona, and the steps that our Team Oxygenaddict athletes have taken in training to prepare themselves for race day. They also discuss the pro races, and you’ll hear both Rob and Chris’ picks for the podium in both races!

403 Age Group Story: John Fellows
This week we have an Age Group Special. John Fellows completed the Outlaw full distance race this summer, fulfilling a life long dream to complete a full Iron distance race. Along the way, he lost over 28 pounds in weight! After three attempts to complete a 70.3 on his own, he joined Team Oxygenaddict in November and hasn’t looked back. His simple but very effective goal setting process, and dedication to avoiding injury, were integral parts of his road to success completing his ‘life changing’ finish at Outlaw Full this summer!
