Find the show at @emilymstochl on Instagram and @PreLovedPod on Twitter. Pre-Loved Podcast: Daniya of LA Vintage Today we’re talking bulk vintage! I’m speaking with Daniya the owner of LA Vintage, a rag house that supplies vintage clothing, shoes and accessories to retailers, stylists, designers and wholesalers around the world. Daniya's family started LA Vintage in 2006 and she has been running the company for the past three years. Driven by the mission to divert textiles from the landfills, Daniya and her team are able to annually recycle millions of lbs of textiles and contribute to a more circular and sustainable future. I’ve long wanted to do an episode on the ins and outs of rag houses: how bulk vintage works, how inventory finds its way to LA Vintage, what its’ like to mass sort and grade vintage, and everything a vintage seller needs to know if they want to shop there. I’m really, really excited for this episode, as it’s such a rich and unique conversation, so let’s dive right into it! Find the show at @emilymstochl on Instagram and @PreLovedPod on Twitter. Pre-Loved Podcast: Zero Waste Daniel Today I’m speaking with Zero Waste Daniel. Zero Waste Daniel is a New York based clothing designer and zero-waste lifestyle pioneer who uses pre-consumer waste sourced from New York City’s garment industry, as well as other hard-to-recycle materials, to create his line of genderless clothing and accessories that send nothing to landfills. At Zero Waste Daniel, fabric waste is kept at zero. Pattern making techniques, appliqués, tiled mosaics and embellishments absorb one hundred percent of the textile goods that are brought into the make / shop. Each piece from zwd diverts roughly one pound of fabric from hitting landfill. On this episode we talk about Daniel’s fashion career, zero waste design, ReRoll and his famous patchwork designs, using the teeny-tiniest of scraps, and so much more. I’m really, really excited for this episode, Daniel was an absolute blast, so let’s dive right into the episode! Pre-Loved Podcast: Knickey Today I’m speaking with Cayla O’Connell Davis, the co-founder and CEO of Knickey, an organic cotton intimates company with the first ever intimates recycling program. Working in the world of secondhand, I’m asked all the time about underwear -- we don’t thrift it, we shouldn’t donate it, so what are we to do? Knickey wants to help solve those problems. In addition to their GOTS and Fair Trade certification, and their company’s carbon neutrality, they developed a first-of-its-kind recycling program to solve an industry-wide fashion problem of old underwear piling up in landfills. In this episode we’re going to talk about textile recycling, sustainability in the intimates industry, high-value recycling solutions, innovation and forward progress, and so much more! Find the show at @emilymstochl on Instagram and @PreLovedPod on Twitter. Pre-Loved Podcast: The Consistency Project Today, I’m actually revisiting a guest I’ve had on the show previously, Natasha of The Consistency Project. Natasha and I originally recorded a Pre-Loved Podcast episode back in March 2020 -- it aired on March 23rd, and I’ll link it in the shownotes because it’s still a great episode if you haven’t hear it. But, as we all know, the spring of 2020 was a time of big changes -- for all of us. Let’s see if I can get this timeline right -- Natasha opened a physical Brooklyn location for The Consistency Project, her vintage and upcycling sustainable fashion business in December 2019, just a couple months after having her first baby! Of course, less than four months later, the pandemic would force TCP to close their doors to the public. When Natasha and I spoke on Pre-Loved Podcast last month, we all thought maybe the closures would be a temporary storm to ride. But by the time summer came around, Natasha made the difficult decision to close the physical space permanently, and actually move her family and TCP to Hawaii where she grew up. We thought it would be really interesting to catch up and really realistic and helpful to hear the stories about making hard decisions to pivot in your business. The Consistency Project is still at it breaking the stigma of secondhand and reworking fashion. They’re just doing it in different ways. I’m really, really excited for this episode, so let’s dive right in!
