It even makes your job easier when you get auditions! But... there is SO MUCH content to watch these days, with streaming channels constantly sending out new series all at once, or networks introducing new shows and canceling them faster than the blink of an eye. 121. Bionic Actor & Disability Advocate Angel Giuffria

Angel Giuffria, bionic woman and disability advocate, can be seen on Chicago Med, FBI: Most Wanted, Snowpiercer, as well as on films such as The Tomorrow War. Today, she joins Sam to dissect her experience in the industry and the nuances of being an actor with a limb difference. Having been born with only one arm, Angel speaks about how her mom always taught her that what makes her different is actually her strength. She mentions the harm that came along with having such low visibility of disabled people in media when growing up, and how that translated into her believing she shouldn't take up too much space when acting on set. It wasn't until Director Martin Campbell made her a featured extra on the film Green Lantern that she began to see that she could (and should) take up space — that she could act in roles that had nothing to do with her disability. Angel also speaks about the how far commercials have come in regards to disability representation and just how far TV and Film still have to go. In terms of her acting career, Angel goes into depth about how her disability has shifted her casting type and how it even changed the framing of her headshots. She explains her feelings on abled actors portraying characters with disabilities, how to make stories more inclusive, the need to make sets and casting offices more accommodating to those with disabilities, her thoughts on being labeled "inspirational" for simply doing everyday tasks, the value of having disability consultants on set, and how the industry should work towards having more diversity across the board in every category. At the end of the day, we all love this industry and should want to open up opportunities for all actors of every community to be able to audition for any role. That love for what we do doesn't mean it's not a difficult industry to be in. While Angel has a Master's degree in Psychology, acting is what makes her heart whole and what she chooses to continue to pursue despite all of its ups and downs. When things get tough, she reminds us that we all just have to keep going and try to do the things that remind us why this is the thing we simply can't not do. Resources Mentioned in This Episode: Angel's IG  Working Actor Workshop  Make It Big App Actors/Shows Discussed: Marlee Matlin, Robert David Hall on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Charlize Theron on Mad Max: Fury Road, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson on Skyscraper, Kurt Yaeger on Sons of Anarchy, Anya Taylor-Joy on Furiosa, Autumn Best on CW's 4400 Remake, Zyra Gorecki on La Brea, and Steve Way in Ramy.  -------- Want more? 120. Decision Fatigue + Three Ways to Fight It

As actors, we have to make countless decisions every single day. How much energy will I give my day job today? What part of my career am I going to work on when I'm not auditioning? Should I reach out to my representation since I haven't heard from them in a while? The more obligations we have, the more decisions we need to make, and the more drained we become as the day goes on. If we're not careful about pacing ourselves through all of these little choices, we can easily become burnt out and not able to tackle the fun, creative acting decisions asked of us for auditions. In this week's episode, I talk about this exact problem. While there may not be a perfect system that permanently solves decision fatigue, I do have some tips that have helped me. I share my morning routine, how I've streamlined my audition process, and how I use any free time that I may have. I also discuss my "Someday, Maybe" list and how invaluable it has been in organizing all the little things that need to get done (Like uploading my auditions to Dropbox!). We'll always have decisions to make, but I hope that these tips can help give you the mental breathing room that they have given me in my day-to-day actor life. 119. What I Thought This Would Look Like...

This week, we tackle how this career is so different than what we could ever plan it to be. I go back to that young 22-year-old Sam who landed in Hollywood ready and willing to do anything to make my dream come true. I had a laser-sharp focus on all things acting, and I believed that all the issues I had with my body, finances, and emotional well-being would be resolved with booking that one job. Boy, was I wrong.  But 10 years later, things haven't turned out like I expected them to. Looking back, I never factored in Sam the human when I was making a plan for Sam the actor. Join me as I talk about all that was unexpected in these past 10 years, all that's still to come, and how no matter where we go, there we are. Resources Mentioned in This Episode: Here's that 5 year Acting Plan I talked about The Amazing Sara Mornell, my coach Set up a Routine with Actors Encouraged -------- Want more? Season 8 Announcment

Season 8 is FINALLY on its way!! We have so many exciting things in store for this season that I am so glad to finally be sharing it with you all. We are shaking things up this time and have lots of changes coming your way. Instead of our usual 12 episodes that have a 1 hour+ episode structure with guests, this season I wanted to sit down and talk to you one-on-one. These new-and-improved Solo Sam episodes will be way shorter in length and let me chat with you about everything that's on my mind about the entertainment industry, what I've learned recently, and we will even have some Q&A's to answer whatever questions you have. We will also have professional guests that are not actors but still have things to share with the rest of us about the industry. But fear not!! We will still have plenty of acting guests in the season and long episodes, they just won't be the only thing to look forward to. As always, thanks for listening to the One Broke Actress podcast and I cannot wait to share everything that we have in store! -------- Want more?
