148. BONUS: Casting & Castability with CD Amanda Doyle
Straight from IG Live (forgive the audio quality) I am joined by CD Amanda Doyle. Her love of actors and the creative process got her in on the ground floor of Castability, which we really get into in this episode. Here's the deal..
As actors, we are never told how we did in an audition, why we didn't get a part, or how close we got. It sometimes feels impossible to grow.
Castability was created to empower actors with real data. It works as an audition simulator. Actors submit self-tapes, and receive private rankings from vetted Casting Directors, with their top-ranking work showcased to the industry on our Castability List...hi new workshop game?!
OBA is a proud partner of Castability. Check if out here!

140. Actress Michelle Meredith on the "Hollywood Body Idea" and Booking The Morning Show
From booking her first costar on Black-ish to Sorority Sister on Kappa Kappa Die (2020) to a recurring role on Apple TV's The Morning Show as Lindsey Sherman, Michelle is a rising star. Our paths have crossed before (Both her roommate AND her manager have been previous guests on the show!) and I absolutely love what she has to say about consistent good work paying off in the long run. With a film coming out later this year and a SAG Award Nomination under her belt, Michelle's journey is just beginning. — Different body sizes in Hollywood + her personal experience as a plus-sized actress
— Celebrities like Renée Zellweger + Sarah Paulson wearing fat suits
— Embracing what sets us apart
— Michelle's favorite role (so far)
— What to do in-between bookings
— How luck factors into success in the entertainment industry
— Mental health + Hustle Culture
— Patreon Questions, including: whether or not there was self-doubt after booking The Morning Show, prepping for an auditions vs. actual shoot, what surprised her most about being a recurring guest star, and growing a network

139. Sending Better Emails
Let's be honest, none of us got into this business to write emails. As creatives, all we want is to create projects that we're passionate about. But, the keyword here is that this is a *business* and part of that business is sending emails. While people have different opinions about how to improve an email, I'm giving you 5 tips in this episode that I personally believe will make all the difference. With One Broke Actress alone I get so many emails asking for advice or to collaborate that I can tell you from experience how easy it is to pick out which ones are professional and which are copy/paste spam. So — before sending your next email to an agent, manager, or casting director — be sure to listen to my tried-and-true tips on how not to get lost in someone's inbox!
