3 Ways To Let Others Help You w/ John Livesay (FMF #12)

FIVE MINUTE FRIDAY #12 "3 Ways To Let Others Help You" w/ John Livesay Article Originally Published Here: https://johnlivesay.com/3-ways-to-let-others-help-you/ Want more great tips? John's Website: https://johnlivesay.com/ Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jlivesay/ Email: John@Johnlivesay.com Podcast: https://johnlivesay.com/john-livesay-podcast/ Blog Transcript: We all know that babies need help in order to survive. Babies have no problem asking for help (loudly) by crying. Yet as we get older, we tend to start becoming more independent. We say things like “I can do it myself.” This is the natural process of growing up. However, the concept of doing everything ourselves can really be detrimental. Here are three easy ways you can let others help you. 1) The key to the fear of the unknown is: don’t go it alone! A healthy ego is one that realizes it can’t do everything alone and needs other experts to help. If you think you can do everything by yourself, you will not go far. As the African proverb says: “If you want to go fast, go alone; but if you want to go far, go together.” 2) Asking for and getting help is not a form of weakness. When I decided to launch my podcast six years ago, the concept of editing the podcast and getting it out on all the platforms and creating transcripts was overwhelming. Luckily for me I found a great company called Podetize. They produce my podcast so I can do what I love best: interviewing! Another friend of mine was also thinking of starting a podcast at the same time and thought I was crazy to pay someone to help me do something that I could “figure out on my own.” Now I have over 300 episodes out in the world, and she has yet to launch her podcast. Sometimes, trying to do everything yourself causes you to never get anything done. More recently, I had eyelid surgery to help my vision. The doctor told me that not only would I need someone to take me home after the surgery, but I should have somebody stay with me because I should not be bending over or lifting anything. Luckily, my sister Barbara came in from Chicago to stay with me in Austin for the week. In a way, when you’re sick or recovering, you go back to being completely helpless. I certainly couldn’t bend over to put the harness on my dog and take him for a walk, for example. She was also fantastic at helping me keep ice on my eyes for three consecutive days. 3) The next time you think you can do it all alone, remember that we all need each other. Letting other people help you in your career and in your personal life is a form of self love. Love yourself enough to let others give you what you need, or pay them to help you in your career. -- Listen To All Episodes of The Real Business Connections Network on... 7 Simple Steps to Guarantee You’ll Win The Day (FMF #11)

FIVE MINUTE FRIDAY #11 "7 Simple Steps to Guarantee You’ll Win The Day" w/ your host, Ben Albert - Transcript: Are you a winner!? If so, you need to take calculated steps to ensure you win the day, every day! A lot of small parts lead up a massive whole. So let’s focus on the essential actions necessary to effectively boost your efficiency every day! I’m Ben Albert of Balbert Marketing, and I’m here to provide 7 simple steps to guarantee you win the day! 1. Plan Your Day The Night Before: Seriously, don’t leave the next day to chance. At the end of each day, write out all the things you need to do the following day to achieve your goals. Write out your schedule to the best of your ability. What I love to do is is make a list of NON-NEGOTIABLES for the next day. I put them on a big whiteboard, so it’s in front of me the moment I reach the office (the guest bedroom) in the morning. 2. Prioritize Your Non-Negotiables: Number each item and do the more challenging jobs first. There’s always the temptation to do the easy jobs first. However, think how the thought of doing the complex jobs hangs over you as you do the easy stuff. Think how good you’ll feel when the toughest tasks are out of the way. I like to do some of my most important tasks absolutely first thing in the morning. 3. Stick To Your List: Check off each item. Don’t get distracted. Don’t let emails and texts ruin your momentum. You don’t need to answer every email/text as they come in. Set a schedule to check your email/notifications at a specific time each day to avoid constantly checking. Or really, do whatever strategy works best for you! But make sure you stick to your list! 4. Remember the Three “D’s”: Do it, Delegate it or Dump it. When a new task comes up, take action immediately. Either do something about it now, delegate it to someone else or throw it in the trash. Don’t waste unnecessary time, especially in the morning, thinking about tasks without taking action. 5. Don’t Procrastinate: I know I just addressed this in the three Ds. But I think it’s important to hammer this one down. Don’t procrastinate! Take your list of priorities and get them done! You can do it! And if/when you do check texts and emails, address them right away! No procrastination! 6. Schedule in breaks and fun tasks: Schedule out time in your day to take a walk, work out, relax and decompress, or anything that makes you happy. Make the workday less stressful and more fun. And plan that time out! Schedule it! To win the day, you need to take time off for yourself. 7. Keep it Real: Seriously, sometimes we all need a reality check. Ask yourself, “am I slacking off.” “Am I living up to my potential?” “Am I holding myself accountable?” If the answer is no, remember, you’re only human. But let’s get better! I appreciate you engaging with me today, I’m going to coming at you with countless tips, and to make it more fun, most weeks will have an expert guest; if you’d like to learn more about Balbert Marketing and our services, I encourage you to go to balbertmarketing.com -- Listen To All Episodes of The Real Business Connections Network on...
