America's changing transport agenda - Jeff Paniati
Jeff Paniati's insight into transport in the United States is particularly valuable. He was Executive Director of the Federal Highways, where he was responsible for 2,900 employees in 65 offices nationwide and an annual operating budget of $400 million and is now Executive Director and CEO at the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE).He led the development and implementation of the highway provisions in the Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act (MAP-21) surface transportation program, including the transformative move to a performance-based federal-aid highway programme. At the start of 2016 the Fixing America’s Surface Transport (FAST) Act was introduced that gave five year funding certainty. He also reflects on how cities in the United States are changing and also competing for a prize of $40 million fund under the Smart City Challenge. The role of autonomous vehicles in the future UK transport system

Transport Infrastructure Skills Strategy - Sir Terry Morgan
Sir Terry Morgan, Chairman of Crossrail – a £15bn project – started as an apprentice. His own experience of the value of apprenticeships is demonstrated with what Crossrail has achieved by providing people similar opportunities to enter the profession. These lessons are probably the key reason the Secretary of State, Rt Hon Patrick McLoughlin, asked Terry to develop the Transport Infrastructure Skills Strategy, published in January 2016. He gives an insight into this, how the UK compares to Germany in apprenticeships, rebalancing education and economy, and how employers should take forward the new Apprenticeship Levy. Major Roads for the Future - David Quarmby
In autumn 2014 the Rees Jeffreys Road Fund commissioned a substantial two-year Study on ‘Major Roads for the Future’ in England. The Study, led by David Quarmby, is developing a long term vision – to 2040 – of the role and evolution of the major road network in England. The Rees Jeffreys' trustees intend that the Study should inform and influence policy-making for this Parliament and for the longer term.
