073: Are Fat People “Heart Attacks Waiting To Happen”?

What our society has taught us about fat people: OMG, fat people are stalking the streets in search of thin people to gobble up! Once they catch them the fatties suck what little fat The Thins (TM) have through a straw pierced into their belly buttons! Their appetites and depravity know no bounds and due to their deplorable behaviour they are "heart attacks waiting to happen"!!!!!! Of course, I am exaggerating there, but should we be worried that if we live in a fat body we are probably gonna die imminently? Is there any truth to the hyperbolic headlines featuring images of headless fatties? Let’s talk about it in this episode. TW: O Words, health, and weight correlations, health-promoting behaviours, death from medical fatphobia Episode show notes: http://www.fiercefatty.com/073 Free Training: The 4 Simple Steps to Feel Confident in Your Body and Around Food ... 072: Are We Fat Because Of Trauma? PLUS Age Positivity!

I used to believe that ALL fat people were fat because they had mental health issues. Is it true that when people experience trauma they consciously or unconsciously put on weight to protect themselves? Is being fat just a physical manifestation of something else that is going on that we need to fix? I answer these questions PLUS talk about age positivity in this week's episode. 070: Dismantling Fatphobia vs. Body Acceptance

Is it irrelevant to work on accepting or even loving our bodies when there are potentially more important things to worry about; like erasing systemic fatphobia? Should we fix that first and then body love will be easier when society adjusts? Let's talk about that in this week's episode! 069: Food Addiction and Binge Eating Disorder

Binge Eating Disorder is the most prevalent eating disorder in adults, yet hardly anyone talks about it. So many people who live with it believe they are just addicted to food and a good old diet will fix their perceived out-of-control relationship around "bad" food. I talk about my own experience with this eating disorder and how I shifted my beliefs around it to get to a place where I was thankful I had it in my life at the time I needed it. Trigger warning: I will be talking about eating disorders in this episode, food quantities, spousal abuse through food deprivation and also a brief mention of child sexual assault so skip if that’s not feeling ok for you today. I've stopped dieting and therefore I am free from the grips of diet culture! Right? Umm..maybe not. Diet culture is this tricky, sticky beast that has its tentacles in so many areas of our life and chances are you still have diet culture lurking in your thinking and ways of behaving. 067: When You Think Everyone Hates You

Has a friend been a little distant or perhaps you haven't heard from someone in a while? What does it mean? Well, that everyone hates you...of course! (sarcasm alert). Why is it that we make up stories about how others perceive us in our heads and think that we have f*cked up in some way when the reality is probably something completely different? In this episode, I share how in my irrational brain I think certain people hate me and explore the feelings of those who I am jealous of. 065: Fatphobic Reality TV Shows

I got a question about whether the fat folks featured on reality TV shows are intuitive eaters. Is intuitive eating is just an excuse to be "unhealthy"? Let's talk about that in this episode!
