HR Works Podcast 164: Building an Effective Organizational Culture

We all know that getting culture right is an absolute must at any organization. But sometimes the stakes are higher than just a potential loss of motivation or high turnover. For example, when poor work cultures intersect with poor safety cultures, lives can be at risk. In episode 164 of HR Works Podcast, we talk about the space shuttle Columbia disaster, a fatal incident in the U.S. space program. On February 1, 2003, the space shuttle exploded as it reentered the atmosphere, killing all seven crew members. After an investigation, the Columbia Accident Investigation Board (CAIB) found that NASA’s organizational culture was as much to blame for the explosion as technical difficulties. Today’s guest is Dr. Phillip Meade, co-owner and COO of Gallaher Edge. Dr. Meade is also co-author of the upcoming book, The Missing Links: Launching a High Performing Company Culture, which is set in the aftermath of the Columbia shuttle disaster.

HR Works Podcast 162: ADHD Isn't a Knowledge Problem, It's a Performance Problem

According to experts, the number of adults with ADHD is between 8 and 9 million. Although we can’t say for sure what the numbers are among the workforce, but it is likely you have employees with ADHD – and if you don’t, you will. ADHD is one of those things that is vastly misunderstood and poorly portrayed in the media. And even the name itself poorly describes what ADHD is and what it is really like. In addition to being misunderstood, individuals with ADHD routinely have difficulty with employment, and those difficulties can mask their natural capabilities. In our latest installment of HR Works Podcast, our guest is an advocate and disability expert with a lot to say on the subject. Please take a listen in to learn symptoms of adults with ADHD, how to help them better focus at work, get organized, and more. We are pleased to have Dr. J. Russell Ramsey, Co-Director of Adult ADHD Treatment and Research Program, Associate Professor of Clinical Psychology in Psychiatry at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.

HR Works Podcast 160: Strong Candidates Among the Disabled

Guest: Carolyn Cannistraro, Account Relationship Manager, Wells Fargo According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the current unemployment rate for persons with a disability is 12.6% compared with the total unemployment rate of 5.4%. False myths about people with disabilities often lead to their termination before other employees, as evidenced by the 1 million such employees who were let go since the pandemic began. Since March 2020, 1 in 5 workers with disabilities have been dismissed from employment compared with 1 in 7 other employees. These figures represent a tragedy for employees and employers alike as employees with disabilities are demonstrably excellent and dedicated workers. They are also often in delicate situations outside of work for which the loss of a job can and often does spell disaster. Today’s guest is an advocate and disability expert with a lot to say on the subject. I am pleased to have with me Carolyn Cannistraro, Account Relationship Manager at Wells Fargo (https://www.wellsfargo.com/). HR Works 5-Minute Friday: Converging Factors Created Great Resignation

Guest: Bill Armstrong, President, Gava Talent Solutions A convergence of factors has aligned to create record-breaking turnover over the last few months, a trend that does not seem to be backing off anytime soon. In fact, The BLS has shown a very high voluntary quit rate for the last four months. In July it was 3.9 million per month. What does it all mean? How do organizations survive? Today’s guest might have an idea or two. I am pleased to have with us today Bill Armstrong, President at Gava Talent Solutions (https://www.gavatalentsolutions.com/). HR Works Podcast 159: Adapting Beyond the Transaction Mindset

Guest: Sanja Licina, Ph.D., President of Workforce Experience, QuestionPro The needs and concerns of employees have changed significantly over the last year and a half. But have they become more difficult to address? Today’s guest does not believe so. She believes employers need to get out of the transactional mindset that pervades employment and take some time to reexamine their employees. She also believes that tried-and-true solutions to the current set of employee issues will work only if employers can identify what those issues are. I am pleased to have with me in this episode Sanja Licina, Ph.D., President of Workforce Experience at QuestionPro (https://www.questionpro.com/). She has 20 years of experience as an executive and senior leader in high-growth organizations, as well as a researcher and product manager. For nine years she held multiple strategic roles at CareerBuilder, including product management, talent intelligence, and workforce analytics. Prior to joining QuestionPro she led the Future of Organizations unit at Globant, a company that leverages digital-cognitive technologies to help companies transform. Early in her career, she was a researcher for Ipsos and a consultant for Harvard Business School.
