In this episode we sat down with Jennifer Rowan. Jen retired last October after spending 20 years working for the Reno Fire Department. During her time as a firefighter and apparatus engineer Jen spent a lot of time training. Not just training on strategies and tactics, but training her body to be able to withstand the rigors of this job and to preform at her peak. When she retired she took her passion for the fire service and her passion for physical fitness and created Academy Fitness Prep. AFP is a training/coaching program designed to help individuals train for the physical side of firefighting. Her programs specifically focus on movements and output that mimics fireground operations. Paul Thoma spent the better part of a decade serving with Team 7 in the Navy Seals. Upon his exit from the Seal Team Paul found his next mission as the C.E.O of the Seal Future Foundation. This foundation helps Navy Seals successfully transition from the life of high level operator back into the civilian world. They focus on 4 pillars for success, health, career, education, and community. This foundation is doing amazing work for the Seal community, and should be the model for all branches of our military in assisting their personnel at the end of their service careers. We discussed the foundations mission and dive deep into several topics that revealed many similarities between the Seal and Firefighter cultures.
