A better future for online content and streaming in a post Youtube world with Jeremy Kauffman, Founder LBRY, Odysee

Jamil talks with Jeremy Kauffman, Founder and CEO of LBRY and Odysee in a really interesting conversation about the potential for a freer and less corporate controlled environment for online content creators. Big Tech and the Securities Exchange Commission: Good Sportsmen, Unfair Censors, or Common Thugs?, with Jeremy Kauffman, Founder and CEO of LBRY and Odysee Jeremy created LBRY because he fell in love with the idea of a shared, global content network that is owned and controlled by no one. LBRY is now used by more than 20 million people each month. There's certainly people who join LBRY because of YouTube's restrictive policies, but there's lots of other reasons: On YouTube, you build a following owned by Google. On LBRY, you build a following that cannot be taken away. On YouTube, you lose 30-50% of revenue to Google. On LBRY, you lose nothing (odysee.com may take a cut eventually, but you're not trapped in the same way, since everything is open source / forkable) On YouTube, you're the product. On LBRY, you're an owner and have much more control (psychologically appealing even if you're not breaking any rules) On LBRY, funds settle in minutes with no minimums You can tell the broad appeal LBRY has from all of the creators on it, compared to what you'll see on "alts", which typically is only the content that gets in trouble. Jamil believes that skill and experience, not just age, is the most important factor required to build and lead corporate organizations. His unique story, as someone on the ground floor of the 2008 financial crisis and his role to help repay the $180 billion AIG bailout, enabled him to come face-to-face with many of the societal ills facing Generation X today and their causes. As the result of his experience, Jamil has developed a path forward for his fellow Gen Xers to restore his generation’s financial standing in society today and to rebuild the American Dream for Generation X.

Sustainability is not a spectator sport; we all have a role to play

Extreme weather conditions are occurring more often all around the world, from wildfires in the U.S. and Australia to severe flooding in parts of Africa and Asia. As a society, we are facing a global crisis: Over 1.2 billion people could be displaced from their homes by 2050 due to the effects of climate change. Urgent action is needed to combat the immense challenges we face. Recent pledges by big banks including Citi, J.P.Morgan, and Bank of America to support sustainable finance and help accelerate transition to low-carbon economy is a great start. In this episode of One Vision, Theo and Bradley chat with Matthew Sekol, US Market Executive, Capital Markets, of Microsoft, on the key topics of our century, from ESG to the digital divide and the ethics around artificial intelligence. There is hope, but only if we act together — now. As we observe Earth Day, we have no other choice. We don’t have a second chance.
