Healthcare and Hospitality: "Don't cross the streams! It would be bad." ~Egon Spengler, Ghostbusters, Movie
I must have watched the 1984 cult classic movie, Ghostbusters a dozen or so times in my youth with my cousin in Canada on my Gramma's couch. It's definitely a movie that has some unforgettable one liners and come one, who doesn't smile when they remember Ray Stantz and the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man? I love it. I'm going to get a little geeky here for a minute so bear with me. There's a point. One of the more memorable lines we can all remember toward the end of the movie was "Don't cross the streams." It was phrase spoken by Egon Spengler in the movie once or twice and for the nerds out there it refers to the proton beams from multiple Particle Throwers crossing paths during use. Egon warns everyone to never "Cross the Streams." What would happen exactly? Well Egon said "It would be bad." In this podcast, we'll highlight some super simple ideas to get you started this week on the road to better customer service in your practice. © Concierge Medicine Today, LLC. Adventures In Patient Care: Waypoints
What You Will Learn In This Podcast: Patients Comeback To Their Doctor Because of How You [and your Staff] Made Them Feel. Takeaway Points Old School Marketing Says … “A brand is what it tells consumers it is.” New School Marketing Says … “A brand is what consumers tell each other it is.” In this podcast we'll unpack the importance of waypoints, customer service and how the simple details of hospitality intersect at the hand-off or stop-start points in your practice. We'll also talk about how word of mouth, positive patient feedback and referrals are generated because you allowed the Patient to tell a positive story about your practice, and avoided a negative experience. What are waypoints used for? According to Wikipedia, Waypoints may be a simple named point in space or may be associated with existing navigational aids, intersections, or fixes. A waypoint is most often used to indicate a change in direction, speed, or altitude along the desired path. © Concierge Medicine Today, LLC. ("CMT") All rights reserved. Mediocrity 60-hours a Week
I read recently that people on average feel about 35 emotions an hour. Makes sense, right. So when two worlds collide, healthcare and hospitality — there’s a cataclysmic, volcanic eruption that is seemingly unspoken by many Physicians today that elicits an insurmountable tidal wave of resentment about hospitality and empathy towards this notion of ‘being hospitable’ in healthcare. After all, you were trained for years and years to serve Patients in such a way that makes them ‘feel’ healthier and ‘feel’ more confident about their human condition and ailments. What is often misunderstood by most Physicians we bump into, (with some exceptions, primarily those in concierge medicine, some in direct primary care and many plastic surgery) is that hospitality … is also about a feeling. The Cambridge Dictionary defines Hospitality as “the act of being friendly and welcoming to guests and visitors.” So, if your practice lives, dies, grows or fails based on the patient referral, it would make sense that the conversation of ‘hospitality in healthcare’ would be at the forefront of your practice/office culture. #PatientBurnout #FORDoctors
Great business people and I’d now argue, great doctors know that “you just need to be a superstar in your own backyard …” and you accomplish that by focusing on your strengths and finding people who want to come along for the ride. Bear in mind though, not everyone will want to join you along the journey. If too many people do … that’s actually, when you raise the fare and see who still believes in your mission and wants to come along for the ride! © Concierge Medicine Today, LLC. Hypothyroidism, Nutrition & Wellness for the Busy Woman
Today we jump across the pond to England to meet up and talk with Gintare Balseviciute. Growing up in Lithuania, Gintare remembers always having access to “real” food – not the processed stuff that fills much of our grocery stores today. She was raised to cook from scratch with whole foods and ingredients. The fruits, vegetables and meat on her table all came from the local farmers; it was all “organic” by today’s definition. Source: https://www.ketogenic-wellness.com/ When Gintare moved to London, she noticed that much of the food in the grocery store came in boxes and cans, or vacuum sealed with labels reading “fat-free”, “low-fat”, “reduced sugar”, etc. Not long after she began eating the foods that were supposed to be “healthy” for you, she began gaining weight, without realizing what she was doing wrong. Gintare understands that eating real food isn’t always convenient, that life gets busy, and that no one is perfect, including herself. She recognizes that eating healthier takes a little longer at first, but that there are ways to fit healthier eating habits into even the busiest of lifestyles. In this podcast episode we unpack the importance of finding balance as a busy working woman, learning to shop right when at the grocery store and how to be creative with our cooking and snacks when living with Hypothyroidism. © Concierge Medicine Today, LLC. Navigating pregnancy and beginning of life care
"Our goal is to empower the next generation of parents to take ownership of their family's health. We want to help new parents feel confident and capable when taking on the job of managing the health of their entire family, and build a platform that will ease the minds of new parents everywhere." ~Estelle Giraud, the Co-Founder and CEO at Trellis Health. Our special guest today is Estelle Giraud, the Co-Founder and CEO at Trellis Health. In today's podcast, we unpack: Curated, educational tools that provide guidance and confidence as mothers and families navigate their maternal health journey. Venture Capital Challenges Among Female Entrepreneurs In Healthcare Protecting Private Patient Information Challenges Faced By Female Entreprenuers Taking back personal agency in pre and postnatal healthcare "I'm a founder passionate about human health and I'm also a new mother," said Estelle. "My experience was pretty intense but not uncommon; including IVF, an emergency C-section, prenatal hypertension, postpartum preeclampsia and medication incompatibilities. I had to monitor my blood pressure multiple times a day, track symptoms, maintain a complex medication schedule, stay on top of a calendar full of appointments and reminders, and had a multitude of genetic and blood tests. There were so many apps and tools out there that would tell me the size of my baby, what carrier was best, or what milestones they were reaching in utero, but there was nothing to really help me manage my own health. And while my care team was fantastic - my information was so siloed it created inevitable gaps in my care. I've moved several times and seen many different physicians both before and during my pregnancy, and the lack of continuity left me feeling anxious and frustrated. I felt I had to stay on top of my own care and information or it would slip through the cracks... my baby and I would slip through the cracks." Trellis Health is a one stop shop for navigating pregnancy and beginning of life care. When starting or growing a family, navigating the siloed complexities of necessary medical care adds stress and frustration to a new parent's already full plate. Trellis Health is here to create lasting change and reframe the way pregnant moms take control of their care. As a new mother herself, Estelle is especially focused on personalizing medical care to the individual and ensuring no new mothers (or babies!) slip through the cracks. "I spoke with dozens of women, and discovered that my experiences were not unique; quite the opposite," notes Estelle. "Frustration, concerns around maternal health risks, missed information leading to avoidable mistakes, it was all a common burden of responsibility for these women. I believe we can fill some of these gaps and ease the "pregnancy health load" with a secure, private health data system and some very simple digital tools that allow your health data to work for you in a meaningful way. This is one of the most important health journeys of your life, building a human. We have to do a better job at supporting women through this." © Concierge Medicine Today, LLC.
