Testosterone & The “Thick Blood” Myth. The Confusion Between Secondary Erythrocytosis & Polycythemia Explained.

On today’s show I have Lauren Finnerty, a nurse practicer at Victory Men’s Health here to discuss yet another misconception of testosterone therapy and that is the thought that testosterone can cause “thick blood” which can in turn cause a heart attack, stroke or blood clot.  This is misinformation.  Evidence shows the link between testosterone replacement therapy and the increase of hematocrit doesn’t lead to more cardiac or thrombotic events in men.  If you have been told this by a medical provider there is confusion around the difference between erythrocytosis and polycythemia vera. The two conditions are completely different but many medical providers don’t know that increased levels of hematocrit and hemoglobin (blood counts) from testosterone (secondary erythrocytosis) doesn’t cause the same medical issues as polycythemia vera.   This misunderstanding could lead to medical providers taking patients off of their testosterone or cause them to over phlebotomize the patient that could cause the patient to become iron deficient or anemic.  Today we want to arm you with the facts! Studies To Support Today's Conversations:  Adverse effects of testosterone replacement therapy: an update on the evidence and controversy Hemoglobin and testosterone: importance on high altitude acclimatization and adaptation Blood doping and its detection AUA: Testosterone may not deserve its reputation as a cardiovascular culprit Clinical review 1: Adverse effects of testosterone therapy in adult men: a systematic review and meta-analysis Fundamental Concepts Regarding Testosterone Deficiency and Treatment: International Expert Consensus Resolutions A Psychosocial Approach to Erectile Dysfunction: Position Statements from the European Society of Sexual Medicine (ESSM) Dr. Eric and Neal Rouzier, MD discuss all things related to hormone optimization! Episode 5 Hormonal Health with Dr. Neal Rouzier (Part 1) is an introduction to the concepts that everyday people need to know and understand regarding the critical role hormones play in our optimal health. Wrongfully Incarcerated for 23 years with Ricky Kidd

Can you imagine going to prison for 23 years for a crime you didn’t commit?  Well, that is the real-life story of today’s guest, Mr. Ricky Kidd. Ricky was arrested in 1996 for the shooting deaths of George Bryant and Oscar Bridges in Kansas City, MO. He was arrested and convicted despite the fact he had an alibi at the time of the crime. His public defender never presented his alibi at trial. No physical evidence linked him to the crime. The prosecutor has been accused of misconduct in several other cases and five of the convictions she helped secure have been overturned.  Ricky was exonerated on his last appeal with the help of the Missouri Innocence Project.  Ricky is now a motivational public speaker, author, and playwright. His sole post-exoneration focus has been to educate and inspire millions of people about resilience in the face of their challenges. Ricky also has advocated for the wrongfully convicted all over the country and has even trained prosecutors on how to avoid wrongful convictions as a criminal justice consultant. Because of this, many around the nation continue to be captivated by Kidd’s story of true Resilience. Micronutrient Testing - Test, Don't Guess Approach For Personalized And Targeted Supplementation.

On today’s podcast I have Nicole Herms, a chemist and technical researcher for SpectraCell Laboratories. SpectraCell Laboratories has a "test, don’t guess" motto when it comes to supplementing your micronutrients. Their Micronutrient test looks inside your cells and identifies deficiencies for 35 vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and metabolites.  Micronutrients are the metabolic workhorses in our bodies that drive every chemical reaction in every cell. The Micronutrient Test reveals exactly what you are deficient in and allows doctors to develop a personalized supplementation regimen versus blindly supplementing someone. Correlating micronutrient deficiencies not only slows aging and degenerative disease progression, it can also prevent as well as repair cellular dysfunction, and by extension, disease. Nichole Herms is an avid proponent of functional nutritional testing since she began working at SpectraCell Laboratories in 2004.  In the years since, she has developed training materials for practitioners who wish to integrate functional nutritional diagnostics into their practice, with special emphasis on the role of micronutrient deficiencies in various diseases.  With a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and a masters in business, she understands both the scientific and practical aspects of lab testing in today’s shifting paradigm of healthcare.  Test, Don’t Guess!  Test Includes:  VITAMINS: Vitamin A Vitamin B1 Vitamin B2 Vitamin B3 Vitamin B6 Vitamin B12 Biotin Folate Pantothenate Vitamin C Vitamin D Vitamin K MINERALS: Calcium Magnesium Manganese Zinc Copper AMINO ACIDS: Asparagine Glutamine Serine ANTIXODIANTS: Alpha Lipoic Acid Coenzyme Q10 Cysteine Glutathione Selenium Vitamin E CARBOHYDRATE METABOLISM: Chromium Fructose Sensitivity Glucose-Insulin Metabolism METABOLITES: Choline Inositol Carnitine SPECTROX™ for Total Antioxidant Function IMMUNIDEX™ Immune Response Score To Learn More: Spectracell Case Studies: Case Study - ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE FAMILY HISTORY, 49 year old male Case Study - CONGESTIVE HEART FAILURE, male Case Study - VITAMIN B12 DEFICIENCY and HYPOTHYROIDISM, 46 year old female Case Study - ANXIETY, PANIC ATTACKS, 45 yr old male Check out Victory Men’s Health and connect on Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, and Instagram.
