This Is Woman's Work with Nicole Kalil
Nicole Kalil
Together, we're redefining what it means, looks and feels like, to be doing "woman's work" in the world today. With confidence and the occasional rant. From boardrooms to studios, kitchens to coding dens, we explore the multifaceted experiences of today's woman, confirming that the new definition of "woman's work" is whatever feels authentic, true, and right for you. We're shedding expectations, setting aside the "shoulds", giving our finger to the "supposed tos". We're torching the old playbook and writing our own rules. Who runs the world? You decide. Because that is Woman's Work. Learn more at nicolekalil.com

114 / The Person You're Forgetting to Thank
It’s the day before turkey day and I am grateful for you! Whether you’ve been listening to the This Is Woman’s Work podcast since episode 1, or you’re brand new here - it absolutely makes my day that with ALL the options available to you, you choose to listen to me ranting into a mic. Thank you for joining me on this journey!
We all have things to be grateful for, even if it’s the simplest or smallest of things. But what if, for this Thanksgiving (or really any day, you don’t need a holiday to be grateful), you chose to be grateful to and for yourself. What if this holiday is about honoring you.
Because, let’s face it, YOU are probably the thing that you’ve let go most unnoticed and unappreciated in your own mind. So I’m gonna ask that you celebrate you, feed you, fill yourself up (and not just with mashed potatoes and stuffing) with thankfulness, generosity and ultimate gratitude. That is woman’s work.

113 / Detaching and Honoring the Messiness
I’m doing something I’ve never done before: a completely unscripted podcast episode. That’s right…no topic picked out, no prepared thoughts and no clue which direction it’ll head in. So buckle up because my foot is on the gas but I have no destination in mind.
Consider this the think out loud episode, the stream of consciousness episode, the trust my gut episode. I share the behind the scenes of book launch, the successes and (holy shit) the challenges. How my personal challenges and the spectacular screw ups on the publishing side have left me feeling, quite frankly, numb. How I defaulted to old patterns and behaviors and how it’s taken a huge toll on me and has left me feeling out of balance.
So right now I’m pausing, taking a step back, releasing control, listening, getting quiet, creating space for my inner knowing to speak. I don’t know where this is going to take me, but I’m trusting that it’s necessary.
Let’s trust ourselves firmly and boldly, and then see what we create from here.

112 / Accepting What Is And Getting Into Action with Jessie Harris Bouton
One thing I know to be true about confidence is that it grows the most (and at the deepest level) during our toughest times. Today we are going to talk about how you not only make it through your challenges, but how you might even leverage them to thrive.
I’ve invited Jessie Harris Bouton to join us today because she built a super successful business while dealing with challenges I can’t even imagine. A mom of 5, a wife of a cancer survivor, an entrepreneur who makes millions while working part time, a business coach and founder of The Millionaire Mompreneur Project - Jessie created what she couldn’t find, a business model for motivated women who want meaning, money and freedom on their own terms.

111 / How To Transition Without Starting Over with Blake Shofield
Our work environments aren’t going to change unless WE change. You don’t need to walk in today and quit, but you can start taking action towards creating, finding or building the career opportunity you want.
Here to help us do that is Blake Shofield - Founder of The Bridge To Fulfillment, a former corporate executive whose job it was to turn around 8 and 9 figure businesses. Despite her success, Blake constantly found herself feeling unsettled, chasing the next job or promotion to make it better, so she could finally do fulfilling work while having the time to be more present with family, and lead a less stressful life. (I know I’m not the only one who can relate to that) After two cross country moves, increasing frustration with more of the same, Blake forged a new path to build her own business where she now helps other women do the same.
Not every woman is in a position to demand or create their dream job, or to walk away, but those of us who are, damn well better. For ourselves, for the people we love, and for the women that aren’t yet able to. That IS woman’s work.

110 / The Perfection Infection with Jill Savage
Perfection is the enemy of confidence. It tells us we need to do it all, be it all, have it all, look good while we’re doing it AND somehow make it look effortless.
I am Nicole Kalil, a recovering perfectionist - and on today’s episode, we are going to talk about what my guest calls, the perfection infection. Jill Savage is the author of fourteen books: No More Perfect Moms, No More Perfect Kids and No More Perfect Marriages among them. She also hosts the No More Perfect podcast with her husband, Mark. I think it’s pretty obvious that Jill has a very clear message. Known for her honest and engaging communication both as a speaker and in life, she’s here today to challenge us to stop comparing our insides to other people’s outsides.
I’m going to give it to you straight…you will never arrive at confidence via the perfectionism highway. Grace, kindness, messy imperfect action, trusting yourself, especially during the hard times, that’s the stuff of real confidence. Confidence is your choice to make anytime you want, because that is woman’s work.

109 / Why Every Entrepreneur Should Write A Book With Anna David
Books are my happy place and for as long as I can remember it’s been on my bucket list to write one. And now I’ve officially checked that off my list with Validation Is For Parking.
One thing I’ve come to realize is that a book isn’t just a book. It’s so much more, and if you’re building a business you might want to consider writing one. Chief among the many reasons to do it is that your story matters. And, that we need more books (especially in business) to be authored by women.
Here to help us think bigger about that is Anna David - New York Times bestseller of eight books, founder of Legacy Launchpad Publishing and three time Tedx speaker. Anna’s first novel, Party Girl, is in development as a feature film and she hosts the hit podcast, Entrepreneur Publishing Academy.
And while I’d encourage everyone with the desire to write their book to do it, I will share that it’s hard. So when the women around us do brave and bold things it gives us the opportunity to support and celebrate it. We must. Because doing brave and bold things? Well, that is woman’s work.
“If you’re an entrepreneur who hasn’t published a book, you’re allowing your competitors to take your clients” - Anna David

107 / Burnout with Cait Donovan
I am intimately familiar with this topic, and I can’t think of a more relevant and timely conversation than this one with Cait Donovan, leading burnout expert, author of The Bouncebackability Factor and host of “Fried. The Burnout Podcast”.
Run down. Drained. Exhausted. Worn Out. Nothing left in the tank. Ever wonder why there are so many ways of saying burnout?? It’s probably because far too many of us are experiencing this far too often.
And let’s be real, communicating healthy boundaries is hardest when you’re stressed and overwhelmed. It’s also when it’s most important.
So let’s do it together. Less perfection, more REAL. Less martyr, more grace. Less worry, more trust. Less other people’s expectations, more honoring ourselves. Because THAT is woman’s work!

106 / What Men And Women Need To Know About Working Together with Joanne Lipman
I firmly believe that gender expectations damage everyone, and that in order for ALL of us to achieve equity, it’s going to require not just women to fight for what’s right, but everyone.
But men often share that they feel like they’re walking on eggshells and are afraid to say and do the wrong things. While I don’t feel sorry for them, I do have empathy. And I’m not talking about the a-holes here, but the men who want to be part of the solution.
Which is why I invited Joanne Lipman on the show. Joanne is the author of the national bestseller, That’s What She Said: What Men and Women Need to Know About Working Together, former editor-in-chief at USA Today and Conde Nast, and referral from Adam Grant (who I’m professionally obsessed with). She drops some serious (and well researched) knowledge!
We’ll all get where we want to go faster, if we work together. Good men can’t stay silent and a little extra empathy across the board wouldn’t hurt anyone. “Woman’s Work” will be what WE make it, so let's work together to make it something amazing.
P.S. This is a great listen for anyone of any gender, especially those who are leading others.
To follow Joanne you can visit her website at www.joannelipman.com or on IG @joannelipman. And you can buy her book That’s What She Said on Amazon.

105 / The Power Of Connection with Tory Archbold
The power of connection is undeniable. You can’t go very far in life or in business without relationships, and none of us are meant to go it alone. But building relationships, meeting new people, and creating genuine connections may come easier to some of us than others. And some people have turned it into their super power.
Our guest on this episode of This Is Woman’s Work is a master connector. Tory Archbold, CEO and Founder of Powerful Steps, has connected with some of the world’s most influential celebrities, entrepreneurs, and CEOs, and is herself one of the most powerful women in Australia. She shares her tips and strategies for continuously making new and better connections!
We, as women, have an advantage here… we’ve been building, nurturing and maintaining relationships far longer and better than anyone. We connect, deeply and intimately. We have great power we can use for good. So let’s step into that power, together.
