410. After Dark 11 - Four fintech debates and a rant bucket

Recorded live in London, David Brear, Simon Taylor, Leda Glyptis and Sarah Kocianski all take the stage for After Dark 11. For our 11th instalment, we brought back all our favourite parts of our shows - news, insights and some fun and games! After reminiscing about their favourite After Dark moments, David kicks off the debates with a news story about the continuing BCR saga as it turns out free money might come with consequences after all. (08:00) Handing over to Sarah, the next lively discussion was all about product-market fit. Following the news of N26 leaving the UK and JPMorgan Chase wanting to move in, what does product-market fit look like? (18:23) Shaking things up a bit at half time, we brought back the Rant Bucket - a game first premiered at After Dark Atlanta. Each host pulls a topic out of a bowl and then has 1 min to give their best rant about the topic. (28:08) Returning to our energetic debate, Simon takes the lead on a story about investment app outages and asks the question of whether the democratisation of investment is the right thing to do. (43:57) Rounding out the night, Leda talks numbers. Funding rounds and fintech valuations - but what does it all mean? (55:16) Tune in to this episode to find out! 408. Insights: Women in fintech: has anything changed?

With International Women’s Day having just passed, this episode is all about women in fintech. It's no secret that technology and financial services have a gender diversity problem, and in this Insights show, Sarah Kocianski alongside 3 accomplished women in fintech dive into how, and if, this is changing. This week's guests are: Charlotte Crosswell - CEO at Innovate Finance Wincie Wong - Head of Rose Review Implementation at Natwest Evelina Vrabie - CTO at Toucan Why is diversity in fintech important? As we discuss in the show, there is strong evidence that diversity can improve the performance of organizations, particularly those relying on creativity and innovation. But what are the barriers to entry? STEM subjects have always been a gateway into tech and financial services careers and we talk about why the number of young women pursuing these subjects has only seen marginal changes. And finally, we talk about how far we have come over the years. What's changed? What has remained the same? And what is the future of gender diversity in fintech? 404. Insights: Bank earnings: is the competitive tide turning?

Simon Taylor and Adam Davis host this week's episode of Fintech Insider Insights and are joined by guests to talk all about the latest earning reports and see how the big banks have fared over the past year. This week's guests are: Lianna Brinded, Head of Yahoo Finance UK Sharon Kimathi, Editor at Fintech Futures and Banking Technology Earnings reports come out on a quarterly and annual basis, and in today's Insights show, we look at how banks from both sides of the Atlantic performed in 2019. In the UK the cost/income ratios for Barclays, Lloyds and RBS all decreased and many banks were hit hard by fines and payouts for PPI claims. Despite this, all the big banks in the UK made a profit. Across the pond, however, US incumbents suffered as Citi Bank saw a net loss of $132 million and Wells Fargo incurred negative growth in consumer banking operations. But what are the reasons behind these numbers? Is this the consequence of Brexit? Are we seeing the financial implications of coronavirus? Could it be that challenger banks are impacting big banks' bottom lines? Tune in to this week's Insights show to find out more as we dig into the good, the bad and the ugly of the big banks' earnings reports.
