Revenue doesn't always equate to business profit. As entrepreneurs, we have the power to create intelligent accounting practices that include profit as a priority when money begins coming in. Have you ever wondered why an eight-hour workday is standard for most workers? It's not because of productivity or circadian rhythms. The eight-hour workday was another innovation by Henry Ford. During the industrial revolution, most workers worked 12 to 16 hours a day, six days a week. Ford reduced hours and doubled pay, creating a safer environment and a customer base for his products. Stephan Aarstol is another innovative leader. In 2015, he reduced the working hours at his company to five-hour days. He thought the gift of time would be an excellent perk to attract the best and the brightest team members and help his brand live up to the surfer lifestyle. Stephan is the founder of Tower Paddle Boards, a direct-to-consumer SUP company. Keeping up with his surf brand, he has now added Tower Electric Bikes. Stephan was also on Shark Tank and landed a deal with Mark Cuban. He is the author of The Five-Hour Workday: Live Differently, Unlock Productivity, and Find Happiness. Success and happiness are essential to all of us, especially entrepreneurs who often strike out on their own to be happier and create their success. He believes that you have to be happy before you can find success. He also has an incredible story to back up his theory. Dr. Pele was born in Africa during the Nigerian civil war. This war was a bloody battle between the Nigerian government and the state of Biafra. This battle killed millions through casualties and starvation and created a massive flux of refugees. Dr. Pele and his mother were among these refugees. Amidst the pain and hunger, something miraculous happened as his mother started singing stories to ease his suffering. Hence his first foray into the power of music and the power of story. He eventually found his way to the US and became a musician writing and producing for a major label artist. He then earned an MBA, a Ph. D, and wrote several books. He worked in various corporate roles and became a motivational speaker. He now focuses on Profitable Happiness through his podcast, books, and speaking.
