068: Starting a business by fulfilling a need with costume designer Jessica McPhaul
The best business ideas are often born out of a desire to fulfill a need, and our guest today knows a little something about that. Jessica McPhaul got her start making costumes for a small youth theatre in Arizona when she was 16. A few years later, she moved to LA to attend fashion school and has been working steadily in film/tv ever since...including some shows that you've probably heard of including Dancing with the Stars and House of Cards. Her fashion background, combined with a gap that she noticed in the industry, led to her launching not one but TWO different companies - Heywood and Ringo (the custom suit company she launched with her husband) and Naked Rebellion (the women's intimate line with a shade of nude for every woman on the planet). The stories behind these two companies are so cool and I can't wait for you to hear them! And my hope is that today's conversation will help get YOUR wheels turning, because there may just be a need that YOU could fulfill with your next big idea. In this episode we talk about: How Jessica's experiences working in fashion + costume design inspired the two businesses she started The gap she noticed in the lingerie market that wasn't meeting the needs of real women Using our purchasing power to support small business this holiday season!
