EP278: The Nutritional Differences in Conventional vs. Pastured Meat with Fred Provenza

A recent human trial demonstrated that eating wild meat (kangaroo) caused lower levels of post-meal inflammation than eating conventionally-raised beef. In other words, how the animal was raised may have affected the level of inflammation in the body after eating it. When people ate wild meat they had lower levels of inflammation and when they ate meat raised in confinement, they had higher levels of inflammation. And while we don't yet know exactly why this happened, Dr. Fred Provenza, acclaimed author, professor and researcher believes it may have a lot to do with underrated, yet powerful nutrients called secondary compounds. In fact, though you don't hear much about them, secondary compounds have been shown to… Reduce inflammation Provide antioxidant protection Protect against cancer Improve mood Reduce the risk of diabetes Help control appetite And so much more! Most importantly, the levels of secondary compounds change dramatically in meat depending upon what the animal ate and how it was raised. Tune in to this week's fascinating podcast with Dr. Provenza to learn about the little-known, yet important, differences in grass-fed and conventionally raised meats and what it means for your health. Here are some of my favorite takeaways… The benefits of secondary compounds for human health The nutritional difference between pastured meats and CAFO meat The demonstrated changes in human health when you eat CAFO vs. pastured meat The difference between plant-based burgers and grass-fed beef The environmental issues with plant-based burgers Why (and how) animals benefit environmental health Simple ways to get more secondary compounds in our diet And much more! Dr. Provenza is one of my favorite people I've ever interviewed! He's passionate, educated, humble, kind and way ahead of his time! Please share this podcast with anyone you think it may benefit. EP277: The Chicken Industry Exposed with Matt Wadiak

Over 99% of chicken in America is produced by two companies and raised in ways that can negatively impact human and environmental health. The worst part is, even labels like "cage free" and 'free range" don't actually mean what you think they do. Which is why in this week's podcast, with CEO of Cooks Venture and pioneering pastured chicken farmer, Matt Wadiak, we break down the major problems with the chicken industry and where you can find truly high-quality chicken. Here are the topics we cover… The main problems with the conventional chicken industry Free range vs. cage free vs. pasture-raised The #1 cause of death worldwide (and how conventional chickens contribute!) The 3 additives in the chicken industry you need to know about The problem with organic chicken The inhumane practices used in big chicken Why conventional chicken farmers suffer The company that helps verify chicken quality What chickens should actually be eating The uncommon chicken feed that regenerates the soil The nutrients that are higher in pasture-raised chicken Why and how chickens can improve environmental health Where to find truly pastured and regeneratively raised chicken And so much more! Farmers are heroes and when we learn about our food system and buy animal products that align with our values, we become heroes, too! EP271: A Breakthrough Natural Solution for Anxiety, Insomnia & Brain Fog with Cameron George

Several studies have shown a spike in anxiety, depression, and insomnia within the last year. In fact, people are 3x more likely to have anxiety or depressive disorders (vs. 2019) and insomnia rates are up 37%. And while many people turn to alcohol, drugs, or benzos to calm down, there's an evidence-based, natural solution that comes with side benefits rather than scary side effects. That solution is Tru Kava. I learned about Tru Kava in March of last year, and have been using it to help me chill out and get more deep sleep ever since! It works as an alcohol replacement and sleep tonic, AND it can also improve mental clarity. Please note: if you search "kava" in google you will most likely find that kava causes liver issues, but please know that the kava that caused liver issues was made by a pharmaceutical company and is NOT the same as Tru Kava or the kava that has been used and revered for over 3000 years in places like Vanuatu. It makes me so sad to think that people will miss out on the incredible benefits of this powerful plant because of this misunderstanding! Tune in to this week's podcast to learn all about the benefits of kava, the nuances in its production, and how to use it for best results with the founder of Tru Kava, Cameron George. Cameron's story of transformation made my hair stand on end and I hope you love this podcast as much as I did. Here are some of the highlights…. A morning tonic for better brain function The limitations (and dangers) of common medications The benefits of kava The difference between kava and alcohol The difference between kava and benzos The mechanisms by which kava reduces anxiety Reverse tolerance (and why it's a good thing!) How kava helps you chill out and sleep better How kava improves antioxidant production How kava blocks brain toxicity Why (and how) kava can reduce pain How kava reduces appetite and improves fat burning Which forms of kava are safe How to take kava for best results Is kava safe for kids? Can kava help with ADHD? And so much more This is one of my favorite products EVER so please tag anyone you know and love who might benefit from this powerful information in the comments below.
