EFR 481: Soft Tissue Hygiene, Improving Total Body Recovery, and Disrupting the Health Technology World with Jim Huether of HyperIce
There’s been a rising trend in recent years of using technology to better understand and optimize the human body. Through these tools we track, tweak, and train not only our wellness but also our ability to perform, and even use these tools as a means to increase our lifespan. We can now do all these things through the lens of the “quantified self”. Today’s guest explains how his company, Hyperice, has taken the tools and technologies used by the world’s most elite athletes and brought them to the masses to help them “warm up quicker, recover faster, and move better.” Listen in as Jim Huether shares the approach Hyperice uses to continuously develop technology in order to more precisely meet the needs of the human body as we come to better understand how it functions. In particular, he touches on their new HyperSmart ecosystem which pulls activity data from their wearable devices and provides wholly personalized recommendations based on that data. He talks about how the technology guides users toward behavior change in the most natural, human way possible, as opposed to the overly restrictive, one-size-fits-all approach that many coaches take. EFR 480: Coming Home to Your Body, Building Healthy Relationships With Food, and the Power of Human Connection with Kara Campbell
Relationships isn’t normally the first word that pops to mind when we talk about food. Today’s guest illustrates what it truly means to embody our relationship with food and defines “healthy eating” in terms that go way beyond calories, macros, and choosing so-called “good” foods. When we’re in tune with what we’re eating, food allows us to connect to ourselves, to other people, and to the world on a visceral and emotional level. Listen in as Kara Campbell shares how she came to embrace the connective power of food at an early age, just from sitting around the table with her family at dinner time every night. She explains how this evolved into the idea that dining with others and asking intentional questions leads to friends and strangers alike mirroring pieces of themselves back to one another through conversation. She then unpacks the topic of intuitive eating and why most people fail to reconnect to their bodies and simply trust that they know what they need. Kara then talks about how her upbringing within purity culture had a profoundly negative impact on her relationship with food and why women growing up in such an environment almost always have body image issues and destructive eating habits. Finally, Kara touches on why our body is our wisest teacher and the surprising benefits beyond the physical that one experiences once they are able to repair their relationship with food. Kara Elise Campbell is an embodiment coach who teaches women how to connect with their bodies and come back home to themselves. EFR 479: How to Pick the Right Coach for Your Unique Health and Fitness Goals with Alyssa Vance and Christy Campbell
What makes a good coach? How do you know how to pick the right one? What if you view success differently when it comes to your personal health and fitness? Coaches Alyssa and Christy are both very good at what they do and how they help their clients reach their goals but how they go about doing so is drastically different. Does that make one right and one wrong? In this episode, Chase mediates between the two online coaches using input from real, live human beings that are interested in coaching (some for a repeat experience) but have reservations about what will be expected of them, what the work will look like, and what goals are realistic based on their individual needs and unique backgrounds and lifestyles. If you have ever wondered how to go about picking the right coach for your wellness goals then tune in and take notes! EFR 478: From Fitness Stage to Center Stage and How Mindset Can Both Help and Hinder You with Savannah Lynx
Savannah Lynx is a singer/songwriter and fitness model. In this conversation, she discusses how she successfully made the leap from the world of pageantry into music and entertainment. Savannah reflects on how singing and performance had always been her calling. She hearkens back to her college days at Fordham, remembering that “without music as the centerpoint of my life, I really lost it. I wasn’t engaged in class. I wasn’t excited. I wasn’t working out. It was the keystone that put my life together and made me realize who I was and who I wanted to be.” At the age of 21, she was inspired—to her parents’ disappointment—to put her college education on hold, fly from New York to L.A., and pursue her music career seriously. Along the way, her ever-present passion for fitness helped her win the coveted titles of Miss Las Vegas International Model Search and Miss Swimsuit USA International. Listen in as Savannah dives deep into her mindset toward success in both her career and life as a whole. Aside from sharing what she loves about both listening to and making music, she also talks health, nutrition, and setting fitness goals not just for the sake of aesthetics, but for energy and longevity. EFR 476: The Biomechanical Flaws of Traditional Strength Training and Why Weight Lifting is a Waste of Time with Dr. John Jaquish, PhD
Dr. John Jaquish, PhD is the author of the Wall Street Journal bestselling book Weight Lifting Is A Waste Of Time, So Is Cardio, And There’s A Better Way To Have The Body You Want. He is the inventor of X3, the most effective bone density-building medical technology, proven to develop muscle much faster than conventional weight lifting (claiming up to triple the gains you would see from working out at a traditional gym), all with the lowest risk of joint injury. In addition to partnering with Tony Robbins and OsteoStrong, Dr. Jaquish has used his methods to train the world’s most elite athletes and associations such as the entire Miami Heat organization, various NFL and NBA players, as well as Olympians. Listen in as Dr. Jaquish explains the advantages of applying variable resistance to “fatigue every range of motion, separately, in one set while maintaining limited blood flow” and how the X3 Bar lets you do just that for a fraction of the time you would spend in a gym. He also busts a number of fitness myths that would challenge the thinking of even the most seasoned athlete or gym-goer. EFR 475: Take Control of Your Breath, Take Control of Your Life with Niraj Naik
Niraj Naik is a certified pharmacist turned holistic health and breathwork expert, professional musician, serial entrepreneur, and one of the world’s most sought-after spiritual ceremony facilitators. He is the CEO of SOMA Breath, which offers a series of workshops featuring a complete holistic system of Pranayama Breathing techniques with training centers in Europe, the USA, and Asia. Known as “The Renegade Pharmacist”, Niraj educates people about the alternatives to pharmaceutical drugs that are available like breathwork, brainwave entrainment, Ayurveda, and natural supplements and medicines. Niraj shares how he got into breathwork “by accident” after being diagnosed with a chronic illness in 2010 called ulcerative colitis that left him unable to leave his own home for almost a year. Determined to heal, he discovered Pranayama (breath) and the simple, basic breathing techniques that led to instant physiological changes in his own body. Listen in as Niraj explains how breathwork can “repattern the consciousness of the cells in your body” to distinguish stress and create a “thrive environment” within, bringing that reptilian part of your brain under your control. EFR 474: Why Algae is the Perfect Food That Can Boost Your Energy, Immunity and Vitality with Catharine Arnston
Listen in as Catharine Arnston gives a primer on algae as well as the difference between chlorella and spirulina and the massive health benefits of each. Catharine is the founder and CEO of ENERGYbits, an algae-based nutrition snack company catering to both athletes and everyday health-conscious individuals who are looking for plant-based whole foods to fuel their brain and body with maximum nutrition, minimal processing, and zero sugar. She was driven to start the company after her sister was diagnosed with breast cancer and advised by her oncologist that an alkaline diet would help her heal.
