Hello this is Kay Meyer of Family Shield Ministries. Many people have asked me how and why did you start Family Shield? Because it's a long story, I seldom talk about our early years. But I think it would be beneficial for our supporters and those who care about the ministry to know more about how and why the ministry began. Today I'll focus on the early history of Family Shield Ministries. We invite you to watch the video below for a short look back at our over 25 years in ministry.

The pressures of life can be overwhelming. Stressful circumstances cause us to sin. While feeling stress is not a sin, how we react to it can be. Everyone has been on the receiving and giving end of ungrateful behavior, expressing their feelings in ungodly ways. We recognize the damage it can do, but our sinful nature still often wins. Yet in a world that seems to be out of control, God's grace, even under pressure, is sufficient and unlimited. No one suffered more pressure than our Savior Jesus Christ, but he always responded graciously and lovingly, even as he hung on the cross, suffering for our sins. Even as people jeered at Him, and as the world turned from him, Jesus remained graceful. He is our source of perfect redemptive grace. Today we'll talk about God's grace, the stress we all live with, and the seven last words of Christ from the cross, as we discuss Rev. Christopher Kennedy's new book, Grace Under Pressure: Responding Faithfully to Stress. Rev. Kennedy is a senior pastor at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in San Antonio, Texas.

Last week I talked to Greg and Susan Finke about their newest book Joining Jesus As A Family: How to Raise Your Children to be Followers of Jesus. We’ll continue our discussion this week as we talk about where you want your child to end up. We find many parents concerned that their children, youth, or young adults will stray away from the Christian faith—it happens—a lot. In their book they state “I can hear the hope, but I can also hear the fear.” To be honest the fear comes from a growing realization that what we are currently doing in our attempt to raise life-long followers of Jesus isn't working. And here's the thing, it isn’t.

How do we join Jesus as a family? Greg and Susan Finke tell us it’s simpler than you think and a lot more fun. Christian parents want to raise their children to be life long followers of Jesus, but many parents watch their children grow up, leave home and then walk away from the faith. What went wrong; and how can a new generation of parents avoid the same result? Greg and Susan identify what Jesus shows us in the Gospels to help parents become more intentional and practical in raising Jesus followers. What does it mean to disciple my own child? What are my parenting goals? Where do I want my child to end up to lead my children there, and how then shall I live? As I watch Jesus in the Gospels, what is his discipleship process? How can I weave Jesus’ discipleship process into the rhyme of my family’s everyday life? Again my guests are Greg and Susan Finke, authors of Joining Jesus as a Family, and the founders of Dwelling 1:14.
