Bees Keep Elephants Away

Elephants are very big! What does a big animal need a lot of every day? Food! Elephants need a lot of food. But, in some places in Africa, elephants come into villages to find food. This is a problem because a big hungry elephant can smash things and take all the farmers' food. People can get hurt when elephants come looking for food and elephants can get hurt too… 非洲有一些地方的大象,會跑進村莊裡找東西吃。這是一個大問題,而且人類也可能受傷。 Can they build a fence? Hmm… no… elephants are too big and too strong. But… you can use bees! Yes! Really! Bees! Elephants are afraid of bees! The bees sting them in the mouth or even inside the trunk. Ouch! Artist Takes the Money and Runs

What is the most interesting piece of art you have ever seen? 你看過最有趣的藝術品是甚麼呢? The Mona Lisa? A sculpture by Ju Ming? What about… nothing? A museum in Denmark is not happy with an artist named Jenns Haaning because of what he did. 丹麥有一個博物館對藝術家Haaning很不高興。 Actually, they're unhappy with him because of what he didn't do. 對他不開心不是因為他做了什麼,而是因為他甚麼都沒做。 The museum paid Jenns Haaning eighty-three-thousand U.S. dollars to make art. That is a lot of money! That is over two million NT dollars! 博物館付給他超過兩百萬台幣! The museum wanted him to use this money to make something. Duck Recorded Talking Like a Person

Polly want a cracker? Have you ever heard of a talking parrot? 你聽過鸚鵡說話嗎? Of course you have. Parrots are famous for being able to speak. Parrots know how to copy the way humans talk. 鸚鵡會學人類說話。 But have you ever heard of a talking duck? 但是你聽過鴨子說話嗎? According to experts, there's a kind of duck that can make sounds like people, too. This kind of duck is called a musk duck. Musk ducks are from Australia. 科學家說澳洲有一種鴨子也會學人類講話。 Musk ducks are special, because if they spend enough time around people, they learn the way people sound. After they learn these sounds, they can make similar noises. The World's Youngest Astronomer

Real Money Accidentally Burned Along with Fake Money

Have you ever burned ghost money? You know what ghost money is, right? This kind of money is not real money. It is fake. 紙錢不是真的錢。It is money you burn for people who are no longer alive. People believe that if you put ghost money in fire, dead people can use it. 人們燒紙錢是給過世的親人用的。That's pretty cool! But you don't want to accidentally burn things you don't want to burn! For example, you don't want to burn real money along with the fake ghost money! 但是要小心,不要把真的錢也給燒了! Well, that's what happened to some people in Taiwan. They were burning a lot of ghost money. But they accidentally burned some real money too! They burned two hundred thousand NT dollars-worth of real money! 他們燒掉了二十萬台幣的真錢! That is a lot of money. Tamsui Fisherman's Wharf Station Gets a Makeover

It is already fall, and the summer is over, but that doesn't mean you can't still pretend! The Tamsui Fisherman's Wharf Station in northern Taiwan, is decorated like it's still summer! 雖然現在是秋天,淡水漁人碼頭車站仍然被裝飾得像夏天。 The entire place is decorated so visitors feel like they're at the beach! There are fun things to look at and take pictures with. There are ice cream shops, shower rooms, and swimming equipment stores! All of these things are fake, of course. 整個車站都讓人覺得像在海邊,有冰淇淋店,泳衣店跟淋浴間。當然, 這些東西都是假的。 But do you know what is real there? Popsicles! 冰棒! You can get popsicles at the station. Princess Gives Up Royal Status for Love

Would you like to be a member of a royal family? For example, would you like to be a king or queen? 你想當國王, 還是皇后嗎? What if it meant you could not be with the person you loved? Well, there was a princess in Japan who did not want to be a princess anymore. Princess Mako was a real princess in the Japanese royal family. 真子公主本來是日本王室一位真正的公主。 She married a man who is not a part of the royal family, 她跟平民男子結婚了。 But this is a big problem in Japan. This is because in Japan, princesses are not allowed to marry people who are not royal. 在日本, 公主不可以嫁給非皇家的人。 Princess Mako decided to give up being a princess, so she could marry the man that she wants. Company Makes Masks from Plants

Oh, hi kids! I'm just eating some vegetables. Vegetables are plants. Fruits are plants, too. We eat lots of plants. Do you know what other things we can do with plants? Make things! We can make houses with trees, for example. First, you cut the trees down. Then you can make a house. 蔬菜水果都是植物。植物可以吃也可以用來製造東西,很多房子就是木頭做的。 There is an American company that uses plants to make face masks. 一家美國的公司開始用植物來做口罩。 That is great! Do you know why? Well, because of COVID-19, there are a lot of face masks these days. When people throw them away, it makes a lot of garbage. 使用過的口罩被丟掉造成很大量的垃圾。 Have you ever seen face masks on a sidewalk? Yes, I really hate that, too! Face masks are usually made from a type of plastic. Plastic takes a very long time to disappear from the environment. So all those face masks are a big problem. They take up space in landfills. "Take up" means "uses." 這些垃圾占用了很大的空間。 But one company named G95 makes masks from plants. These masks fully disappear from the environment in 90 days after they are thrown away! When people have used the masks, they can mail them back to the company. G95 then recycles the old masks! Lots of people like to dress up as Frankenstein's monster on Halloween! And did you know? Police on Rollerblades

Did you know some police officers in Pakistan use rollerblades! These police officers learn how to rollerblade so they can chase and catch people who break the law. 有一些巴基斯坦的警察穿直排輪去追犯人。 Some cities in Pakistan are super, super crowded. The traffic is super bad! The police say they can't use a police car… and they can't use a police motorcycle. The roads are too crowded! So, they use rollerblades! 這是因為巴基斯坦的城市過於擁擠,街道塞滿車輛,警察不能開車或是騎摩托車。 In Taiwan, sometimes you can see police officers riding horses. But usually, the police in Taiwan ride on scooters or drive police cars. 在台灣,有時候你會看到騎馬的警察,但大部分的警察是開警車或騎摩托車。 But the cities in Pakistan are different. The roads are crowded with people and cars, and buses and motorcycles… it's so busy, sometimes everyone gets stuck and can't move!
