The Kid of the Year
A U.S. magazine chose a Kid of the Year! This 15-year-old boy plays music and reads a lot. He plays basketball and chess. And he makes soap. It can help people with skin cancer!
美國一份雜誌選出年度最有影響力的小孩,這個十五歲的男孩會彈奏音樂、讀很多書,他會打籃球跟下棋,他還會做特別的肥皂,幫助皮膚癌病人。
The boy started mixing soaps and other things when he was four. He wanted to see what happened. When he was seven, he got a kids' science set. Then he had an idea for something to help the world.
他四歲時,就開始把肥皂跟其他東西混在一起,看看會做出什麼。七歲那年他得到一組兒童科學套組,讓他想到了幫助世界的點子。
Millions of people get skin cancer. It costs about one million Taiwan dollars to get better… But lots of people can't pay. The boy wants to make soap for them. It has skin cancer medicine in it!
好幾百萬人有皮膚癌,但是治療費用需要上百萬台幣,很多人付不起。所以這個男孩把皮膚癌的藥混在肥皂裡,來幫助病人。
The boy worked on his soap at home. It was hard! He asked a company for help. Now an engineer there helps him think about his soap. He asked university scientists for help. Now this high school student works on his soap at a university!
他曾經在家製作肥皂,但很困難,他向一間公司求助,現在有一位工程師在幫他,他向大學裡的科學家求助,現在這個高中生在一間大學裡面做肥皂。
The Kid of the Year is making his great idea real. He wants everyone to think of ideas to make the world better!

Stretching Helps Your Body
"Eight, nine, ten… phew!" Exercise is hard work! But kids in Taiwan need more exercise. It's very important for good health.
呼! 運動很辛苦,但台灣的小孩需要做更多運動,這對健康非常重要。
Do you know two important things to do when you exercise? They are warming up and stretching!
當你做運動時有兩件很重要的事: 就是暖身和拉筋!
A researcher says to warm up first. You can walk, jog, or ride a bike. Warm up for five to ten minutes. Then you are ready to move more!
專家說可以先走路、慢跑或騎腳踏車暖身,大概五到十分鐘,這樣你就準備好做更多運動。
Stretching helps your body move more easily. Some people say to stretch before exercising. Others say to do it after.
拉筋會讓你身體更靈活,有人說應該在運動前做,有人說在運動後。
The researcher says both can be good! But you need to know how to stretch. And don't stretch until you hurt! If you hurt, stop!
專家說兩種都很好! 但是你要知道怎麼拉筋,不要拉到受傷,如果拉傷了就要停下來!
Here's one way to stretch. You stand up. Keep your legs straight. Then reach for your toes. Don't move… for one minute!
這裡有個拉筋的好方法: 你站起來,保持你的腿是直的,然後手往腳趾頭延伸,保持一分鐘不動!
The researcher says to stretch one minute for each group of muscles. That's not too long. You won't get tired. And your body gets a good stretch! You'll feel good!
專家說每個肌肉群只要拉筋一分鐘,身體就能好好地得到延伸!

Waiting for Flying Cars
Companies have been working on flying cars for many years. So we ask, "Where are the flying cars?"
很多公司一直在研究飛天車,到底甚麼時候會做出來呢?
Flying cars are hard to make. The cars need to fly a long way. And they need to be safe. Companies have to test their flying cars many times. No one wants cars to fall from the sky!
飛天車很難製造,因為它需要安全地長途飛行。公司要不停地測試,確保飛天車不會墜機!
So how do flying cars work? Every company has a different idea. But most flying cars use propellers. The propellers push air down and the car goes up! Then these cars use wings to fly forward.
飛天車怎麼運作呢? 大部分會使用 propellers ,也就是螺旋槳,它把空氣往下壓,車子會往上升,然後用機翼往前飛行。
Why don't we have flying cars now? Well, we need rules about flying them first. No one wants flying cars to crash! Our safety is important. And these cars will be very expensive. One company's flying car will be $10 million Taiwan dollars!
飛天車也需要相關的法規,保障交通安全。而且,這些車子造價昂貴,其中一家公司的飛天車要價一千萬台幣!
Hmmmm…. So maybe most of us won't buy a flying car. Maybe we will use flying taxis. But we have to wait for those too.
也許大部分的人都買不起,也許我們可以叫空中計程車,但還需要再等等。
For now, we'll keep asking, "Where are the flying cars?" And one day, the answer will be, "They're up above us!"

The Taishin Youth Volunteer Awards
A young girl's love of books is changing lives! She loves to read. She wants to help kids everywhere to read, learn, and grow.
有個女孩,她對書本的熱愛正在改變生命! 她要幫助世界各地的兒童閱讀和學習。
The girl found a group online. It helps kids to study. She volunteered. She read books online with students in India. She had a great time!
這個女孩志願參加幫助兒童學習的線上團體,她很喜歡在網路上,和印度的學生一起唸故事!
Next, she started her own group. She worked with more than 70 schools in Taiwan. She helped many students!
