Ryanair Flight ILLEGALLY Grounded to Catch Dissident… Déjà vu?
Outrage sparked after a Ryanair flight was forced to make an emergency landing in Belarus this week, so that authorities could arrested an opposition activist on board. The orders to arrest journalist, Roman Protasevich, came directly from Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko. US and EU officials have condemned the actions calling it "outrageous and illegal behavior” and some are even calling it “unprecedented”.The government’s attack on the media in Belarus is disgraceful. However, some of the very same figures who are now outraged at Belarus are conveniently forgetting their own actions just eight years ago when the US and EU conspired to ground a plane carrying the President of Bolivia in order to conduct a search for Edward Snowden. I’d like their pro “freedom of the press” narrative more if it were actually sincere, but while Julian Assange is still behind bars, it’s hard to believe that the Biden administration and US pundits have suddenly embraced dissident journalists and information freedom.Watch on Odysee:https://open.lbry.com/@NaomiBrockwell:4/Ryanair-Flight-ILLEGALLY-Grounded:0?r=9mvuwPzyZX55TFcyh5Yhwgm8HEXsrtSmTo make a tax-deductible (in the US) donation to NBTV, visit https://www.nbtv.media/supportSign up for the free CryptoBeat newsletter here:https://cryptobeat.substack.com/Beware of scammers, I will never give you a phone number or reach out to you with investment advice. The UNTOLD story of Bitcoin Pizza Day
The story of the $400,000,000 Pizza! (or $380,000,000 to be precise...)Eleven years ago today, Laszlo Hanyecz made what would become one of the most famous food purchases of all time, and now today will forever be known as Bitcoin Pizza Day.Hanyecz asked an online forum if anyone would be willing to send him 2 large pizzas in exchange for 10,000 Bitcoins.Jeremy Sturdivant took the offer, and it was the first exchange of real world goods for Bitcoin in history. Some say both men were ultimately fools for not holding onto those 10,000 Bitcoin. Others recognize that this exchange grounded bitcoin’s price in terms of real world goods for the first time ever, and became a catalyst for greater adoption. We finally had a money that was uncensorable, peer-to-peer, permissionless, and you could actually use it in your every day life to buy things. It was a revolution, covered in marinara sauce.Happy Bitcoin Pizza Day, everyone! And thank you Hanyecz and Sturdivant for helping ignite what quickly became a full fledged crypto revolution! Is your phone spying on you?
Our whole lives are in our phones. We’re addicted to feeding them data about ourselves, and we take them with us everywhere we go. But Snowden says they’re tracking devices. Snowden teamed up with hardware security expert Bunnie Huang to craft a device that could tell if your phone was sending off information about you without you knowing. 00:00 - Intro02:27 – You think your phone is really in airplane mode? The End of Centralized Exchanges: THORchain
Cryptocurrency holds the key to our decentralized and permissionless future. But one of the biggest problems in cryptocurrency is that all of these decentralized blockchains are like isolated islands. You have the bitcoin blockchain, the ethereum blockchain, the cardano blockchain. And to move from one island to another you have to rely on gatekeepers: centralized exchanges. They can deny you access, seize your funds, they can be shut down by governments or forced to delist certain coins. There have been experiments with decentralized exchanges, but none of them have achieved the success of something like Uniswap -- a major breakthrough in dexes that allows you to exchange assets within the walled garden of Ethereum. But now there’s Thorchain: It’s like a highway connecting these islands. A cross-chain Uniswap. It allows people to move assets from one chain to another freely, without KYC, without them losing control of their funds, without them having to get permission first. Plus you can earn yield on your native assets.I chat with Thorchain community member Chad Barraford about how Thorchain and the Rune token work.Edited by Lee RennieWatch on LBRY! https://open.lbry.com/@NaomiBrockwell:4/what-is-thorchain:3?r=9mvuwPzyZX55TFcyh5Yhwgm8HEXsrtSmShout outs to Erik Voorhees for his great breakdown of Thorchain, and Chad Barraford for answering my flood of questions! To make a tax-deductible (in the US) donation to NBTV, visit https://www.nbtv.media/supportSign up for the free CryptoBeat newsletter here:https://cryptobeat.substack.com/Beware of scammers, I will never give you a phone number or reach out to you with investment advice. Confused by Crypto Taxes? What you need to know
First of all, this is not tax advice. These are things that I've learnt and I wanted to share them.Second, this is not an endorsement of taxes. Many will argue it’s ethical to pay taxes because they support public goods. But a significant portion of your taxes goes towards funding things like the military invasions and occupations, so I can't get behind an ethical justification of taxes.Third, many people use taxes as an excuse for why they shouldn't use crypto everyday. Taxes are really not a show stopper, and I hope through this video to make them a little less daunting!Fourth, there are some neat tricks regarding retirement accounts and donations that might be able to help you.Huge thank you to Roger Brown for his help with this video. Signal's BRILLIANT Ad Campaign
When we think about how Facebook and Instagram target ads towards us, we typically think of cold, clinical terms like “metadata”, “abstract analytics” or “the algorithm”. And whether you like targeted ads or find them uncomfortable, I’d bet almost no one gives enough thought to JUST how personal the ads we see are. In their most recent ad campaign, renowned private messaging app, Signal, exposed how social media companies “...collect everything they can from you, in order to sell visibility into your life,” and it is WAY creepier than ever you ever thought possible. Your privacy is of the utmost importance! Switch to a secure messaging app like Signal where possible, and use app extensions like Facebook Container on Firefox, or similar settings on Brave, to keep the algorithm from invading your private life! https://signal.org/en/ https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/facebookcontainer/ Original article by junh3, posted on Signal's blog:https://signal.org/blog/the-instagram-ads-you-will-never-see/ Edited by Lee Rennie Associate producer Will Sandoval Support the show

The MOST Private Browser (2021)
Web browsers are the gateway to the internet so it is no surprise that they often become the target of companies or hackers who want to collect information about YOU! Not only can websites can track you, but browsers themselves can also send back information about you to the browser’s parent company - In other words, your browsers become spies for the likes of Google or Microsoft and send all these information back to them to monetize! This video will compare the most popular browser options out there and help you make an informed decision best suited to you!The major browsers discussed in this video are Chrome, Safari, Mozilla Firefox, Tor Browser, Microsoft Edge, and Brave. There is often a trade-off between privacy and convenience with browsers, but there are some great options that give you a good degree of both.An important note: A privacy-focused browser is essential for private internet usage… but it’s not sufficient. There are many ways your internet usage can be tracked. To learn more, check out some of the other videos in my privacy series, that will give you a great introduction to how to live a modern, privacy-conscious lifestyle!Written by Reuben YapEdited by Lee RennieAssociate producer: Will SandovalSupport the show

NFTs: What are you REALLY buying?
NFTs are taking the world by storm!Non-fungible tokens, mainly used for collectibles and art. People are buying into these digital keepsakes thinking they'll last forever. But often, this isn't true. Most people think that when they’re buying an NFT, they’re getting an image that will sit in their account on the website they purchased it from. But what they’re actually getting is a link on a blockchain. And links can break. Some people's NFTs have been disappearing from their accounts, and some have been disappearing from the internet altogether!I dive under the hood of NFTs with Aaron Gooch, CTO at Realio Fund, to talk about which NFTs will last forever, and which are vaporware. There are many NFT platforms out there to be wary of. But for the record, I think that NFTs are super cool -- only if they're done properly and are actually decentralized and stored with redundancy and permanency! "See Something Say Something Online" takes aim at Freedom of Speech
The Senate is taking aim at something called Section 230.Elizabeth Nolan Brown, a senior editor at Reason Magazine, says:“Section 230 is more important than the first amendment for online speech”That’s because Section 230 protects online platforms from getting in trouble for publishing your opinion. It’s basically the law that made the internet what it is today. Without it platforms like YouTube, Facebook, Reddit, Hacker News and others wouldn’t be able to operate as they do. So of course, both the left and right want to destroy it.One bipartisan attempt to reform the law is called the "See Something Say Something Online” Act, which is a really scary piece of legislation that would put the DOJ in charge of filtering internet content, and allow everyone to file a “suspicious activity report” against any website. This would not only be weaponized against those with views others don’t like, but it would also create a mountain of bureaucracy on the internet, and essentially eliminate free speech. Furthermore, it would also be a completely opaque reporting system not subject to the Freedom of Information Act.Will decentralized social media be the solution to such attempts to shut down freedom of speech on the internet? Jack Dorsey, Charles Hoskinson, and Dan Larimer think it might.
