Matt Gaetz criminal bestie Joel Greenberg pleaded guilty in Federal court in Florida today. One of the lesser discussed charges to which he pleaded guilty is "conspiracy to commit an offense against the United States." This is an ominous charge. Though the plea agreement does not disclose what crime against the US Geernberg conspired to commit or who his co-conspirator are, today's plea is the first of what will be a series of dominos that will begin falling. In an exercise of propaganda that would make George Orwell blush, Georgia Representative Andrew Clyde tells the American people that the January 6 insurrection never happened and that the behavior of the people in the US Capitol that day "looked like a normal tourist visit." Based on new Washington Post reporting today we've learned that "The Big Lie" was actually cooked up two years ago by a Republican political dirty trickster as a way to cast aside the will of the American voters and corruptly keep Donald Trump in power. There are two main ways mental health issues intersect with criminal prosecutions: 1. competency to stand trial and 2. insanity defenses. Here is an overview of those two features of the criminal justice system and why a "Foxitis" defense is not a legally viable defense in a criminal prosecution. Judge Amy Berman Jackson issued an opinion ordering the release of a Department of Justice Office of Legal Counsel memo and related DOJ internal communications that Bill Barr claimed factored into his conclusion that Donald Trump could not be charged for the obstruction of justice offenses documented in the Mueller report.
