J6 hearings to start June 9; how many Republican politicians will refuse to testify, joining The Cover Up Club

The congressional select committee investigating the Capitol attack just announced that public hearings will begin on June 9. In the meantime, the panel continues to investigate the insurrection. Journalist Hugo Lowell of the Guardian reported that the J6 panel is seeking the voluntary interviews of as many as a dozen members of Congress to testify about their knowledge of the insurrection. This raises what has become the usual series of questions: 1. if the republican politicians refuse to agree to voluntary interviews, will the committee subpoena them 2. if so, will they comply with the subpoenas or will they join The Cover Up Club with the likes of Bannon, Meadows, Navarro and Scavino 3. if so, will they be voted in contempt and referred to the Department of Justice for prosecution 4. if so, will DOJ indict them And one of the most important questions of all, if they chose to cover up the crimes of Donald Trump, will DOJ hold them accountable as accessories after the fact to Trump's crimes. This video discusses all of those questions and more. Because #JusticeMatters. Jim Jordan does Elon Musk's bidding, sends "preservation letter" demands to Twitter board members

The pervasive abuse of the legislative process by some Republican politicians suggests we are living in an age of "gangster government": Kevin McCarthy threatens telecom companies in an effort to dissuade them from cooperating with the House select committee investigating the insurrection; Ron DeSantis uses legislation to punish Disney for criticizing his divisive educational positions; and now Jim Jordan does Elon Musk's bidding by sending quasi-threatening letters to Twitter's board members telling them to preserve all communications about why there were resisting Musk's efforts to buy Twitter. Whether we call it "gangster government" or "legislative terrorism", something must be done to address the rampant abuse of office, on political power and of the legislative process. Insurrectionist Dustin Thompson Testifies he was following Trump''s Orders, Jury Finds Him Guilty

A Washington DC jury just convicted Capitol attacker Dustin Thompson on all six counts for storming the US Capitol on January 6 to stop the certification of Joe Biden's election win. Thompson testified that he was following then-President Donald Trump's express orders. The problem for Thompson is that "following presidential orders" is not a legal defense to his crimes. But it IS evidence that can be introduced against Donald Trump in the future in the event he is indicted for inciting the insurrection. This video covers the three takeaways from the jury's guilty verdicts in the Dustin Thompson case. Is DOJ Investigating Boxes of Classified Documents Trump Unlawfully Took to Mar-a-Lago?

Several stories broke today on the legal front, and they loosely represent the good, the bad and the ugly. NYT: President Biden says Trump is "a Danger to Democracy" and "Should be Prosecuted"

We've had some important developments on the justice front in recent days, including: Federal Judge David Carter finds Trump "likely committed crimes to stay in power" The Department of Justice widens its criminal probe to include funders and organizers of the pre-insurrection rally, as well as the fake electors For past two months, DOJ as been issuing grand jury subpoenas, involving "officials in former President Trump's orbit" Now comes new reporting from the New York Times that President Biden, as recently as late last year, was telling those close to him that Trump is "a danger to democracy" and "should be prosecuted." The reporting also indicates that President Biden wants Attorney General Merrick Garland to act more like a prosecutor and "less like a ponderous judge." Given that the DOJ is supposed to be independent from the White House on matters of who to prosecute, when to prosecute and if to prosecute, will this latest revelation impact AG Garland's approach to the course of the investigation into Trump and company? Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, Conflicts of Interest & the Need for an Impeachment Inquiry

There is a crisis at the Supreme Court as a result of the deeply unethical conduct of Justice Clarence Thomas. There are many suggestions and proposals emerging about what should be done to deal with the current crisis, as well as how to deter future misconduct by Supreme Court Justices. Those proposals include future recusal of Thomas from all January 6 and 2020 election related cases. Others involve the court adopting a code of conduct and mechanisms to enforce violations thereof. This video argues in favor of public hearings into what Justice Thomas did, why he did it, and whether his conduct warrants impeachment. Donald Trump Flips (Politically) on Mo Brooks. Could it be that Mo Brooks has Flipped on Trump?

On thing is beyond reasonable dispute: Donald Trump does not like to admits he's ever wrong. Yet he just issued a statement withdrawing his endorsement of Mo Brooks for the US Senate. In other words, Trump issued a statement saying, in substance, Donald Trump was dead wrong to endorse Brooks. Trump claims that his endorsement flip-flop is because Brooks said people should move on from the 2020 election. But that explanation rigns hollow. This podcast discusses what Trump's real motivation might be for this endorsement flop-flop. Donald Trump Appeals Judge's Order Directing him to Submit to Deposition by NY AG Tish James,

Donald Trump has appealed an order entered by New York state court Judge Arthur Engoron directing him to submit to a deposition sought by NY Attorney General Leticia James. Interestingly, Trump usually fights like the devil to avoid testifying in any setting. Yet based on reporting by CNN, Trump argues that he should not be made to sit for a deposition but instead, AG James should call him to testify before a NY state grand jury. This video reviews the legal consequences of a witness appearing before a New York grand jury, and why Donald Trump is making this seemingly unusual request.
