In today's weekend longform podcast Glenn gives us the latest updates in the Trump Trials. He begins with his review of the recent election. Then, Ivanka Trump has testified in the New York family fraud civil case. Glenn says it appears amnesia runs in the family. Then he talks about Special Counsel Jack Smith who has responded to a set of motions filed by the Trump legal team asking to dismiss the charges against him in Washington D.C. Glenn says Jack Smith shows that Trump's arguments are meritless. Next, a federal appeals court has temporarily lifted a gag order on Donald Trump in his 2020 election interference case in Washington D.C. Glenn says he'll be there on November 20th in the appellate court when they make their determination. Then finally, CNN has reported that several Mar-a-Lago employees are expected to testify against Donald Trump in his federal prosecution in Florida in his classified documents/obstruction of justice/espionage case. These witnesses reportedly include a plumber, a maid, a chauffeur, and a woodworker, among others. Upon learning of this, Trump erupted with an unhinged rant against the CNN reporting, against Jack Smith, and against Joe Biden. In today's longform weekend podcast - Glenn recaps some GOOD NEWS stories of the week - starting off with a fresh new story about DC Judge Tanya Chutkan - who is already preparing for Donald Trump's trial on March 4th. As just reported by the Washington Post, Judge Chutkan will now begin jury selection in Trump's DC case on Feb. 9. This reinforces that Chutkan's trial "will not yield to an election cycle," which she stated in open court when Trump's lawyers asked her to continue the trial until after the Nov. 2024 presidential election. The next good news story: Gag-order-palooza for the month of October. It started with a NY judge gagging Trump and the month ended with a DC judge gagging Trump. All-in-all, a pretty good month. Glenn says the big question is - what will happen to Trump when he violates the gag orders? Next, Glenn gives updates on Trump's NY fraud trial: Don Jr. and Eric provide foolish and incredible testimony, while Ivanka's upcoming testimony may be the most perilous for her father and her brothers. And more good news, in Colorado, a trial has begun to determine if Trump is ineligible to be put on the presidential ballot in that state because he is disqualified under the 14th Amendment for engaging in an insurrection AND because he continues to give aid and comfort to the insurrectionists. Glenn asks: if he is found to be disqualified - will Trump's appeal to the Supreme Court be his ace in the hole? O.K. Last good story, during a campaign rally - Donald Trump made fun of Mike Pence for dropping out of the presidential race; but he still remains an important witness. Former Vice President Mike Pence announced that he's suspending his bid for the presidency, but vows to keep working to help "principled Republicans" get elected. At a campaign stop, Donald Trump mentioned that Pence dropped out, and laughed when someone in the crowd yelled, "Traitor!" Trump then said that Pence "could have done what he could have done," an obvious reference to Trump's continued lie that Pence should have violated the law - the Electoral Count Act - and corruptly declared Trump the winner of the 2020 presidential election. Glenn explains that Pence will have the last laugh (figuratively speaking) when he is called as a prosecution witness to testify against Trump at his DC trial, about Trump's illegal pressure campaign attempting to get Pence to go along with his criminal scheme. Then, New York Judge Arthur Engoron ruled that Ivanka Trump must testify in the New York fraud trial against her father and her brothers Don Jr. and Eric. So now, Ivanka, Don Jr., Eric, and Donald Trump himself are all expected to testify. Glenn says this is perilous terrain to the Trump witnesses in light of the fact that Judge Engoron has already found that Trump and others in the Trump organization engaged in massive, systemic, years-long business fraud.
