Donald Trump is asking the courts to make up something that does not exist in the law: absolute presidential immunity against being prosecuted for crimes committed while in office. Both the trial court judge and a three-judge appellate court panel ruled that there is no such thing as absolute presidential immunity. Trump has asked the United States Supreme Court to put a hold on his criminal case in DC rather than let it move in the direction of trial. The DC federal circuit court of appeals has unanimously ruled that Trump is not immune from prosecution for his January 6th crimes. In their opinion - the court pointed out the Constitution expressly states that presidents can be criminally prosecuted EVEN IF they're first impeached. The Constitution also imposes a duty upon presidents to "faithfully execute the laws" of our nation. In other words - the very language of the Constitution makes clear that presidents ARE NOT immune from prosecution for crimes they committed while in office.
