HEALING 101: Unveiling the potential of psychedelics with Professor David Nutt

On today’s Healing 101, I am honoured to be speaking to Professor David John Nutt, an English neuropsychopharmacologist specialising in the research of drugs that affect the brain and conditions such as addiction, anxiety, and sleep. He is the chairman of Drug Science, a non-profit which he founded in 2010 to provide independent, evidence-based information on drugs. This was such a fascinating conversation and I’ve been desperate to speak to him for so long seeing as I’ve had my own experience with psychedelics. In today’s episode, we take a deep dive into psychedelics and I ask him the questions I’ve always wanted to know such what was the reason therapeutic use of psychedelics was made illegal, why the research surrounding them has always been shrouded in controversy and whether he thinks the general outlook on psychedelics is ever likely to change in the UK. It’s a fascinating conversation and Professor David Nutt explains even the most complicated topics in such a clear and concise way so I really do hope you enjoy it.   Find Professor David Nutt: Twitter: @ProfDavidNuttDrug Science: https://www.drugscience.org.uk/Book on Psychedelics: https://www.drugscience.org.uk/Follow Hurt to Healing on Instagram: @hurttohealingpod--A big thank you our wonderful charity partner Shout. On today’s episode I am joined by podcaster, author, former Made in Chelsea cast member and a very old friend of mine, Caggie Dunlop. Caggie is well known for her podcast, Saturn Returns, which is designed to help listeners feel calm during times of transitions - particularly during our late twenties which is a time that often brings big periods of change and unrest in many aspects of our lives. Caggie has recently written a book inspired by her hugely popular podcast where she shares personal stories, expert advice and empowers readers to embrace their own spiritual journey. Caggie knows first hand how challenging this period is and has been very open about feeling unsettled during her twenties, struggling with both anxiety and depression and drinking in a destructive way. I’m so pleased to have the opportunity to talk to her today about what she did to overcome the discomfort, learn to accept herself and ultimately improve her mental health.Find Caggie: Saturn Returns Website: https://www.saturnreturns.co.uk/instagram: https://www.instagram.com/caggiesworld/Book: https://amzn.eu/d/7qRvEqZPodcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/il/podcast/saturn-returns-with-caggie/id1502641301Follow Hurt to Healing on Instagram:@hurttohealingpodA big thank you our wonderful charity partner Shout. On today’s Summer Special, I am joined by Dr Louise Newson, a GP and renowned Menopause Specialist, author, podcast host and the founder of the Balance app. Louise is passionate about improving education about the perimenopause and menopause and improving awareness of safe prescribing of HRT to healthcare professionals. Peter Tyrer on why personality disorders are very misunderstood

Peter Tyrer is the Professor of Community Psychiatry in the Centre for Mental Health in the Division of Experimental Medicine. Much of his recent work has been focused around personality disorders. Personality disturbance is very common, not just in psychiatric practice, and this importance has been largely unrecognized as the knowledge around this particular disorder is very poor. Many people feel very strongly about the term personality disorder but it’s a term that is misunderstood by almost everyone and needs to go. In this episode, Peter teaches us about the various different types of personality disorders, why they can be tricky to treat and the big question as to whether we are born with our personality or it’s shaped over time.Find Peter:https://www.imperial.ac.uk/people/p.tyrerBuy his book on personality disorders: https://amzn.eu/d/9U7Tg7uFollow Hurt to Healing on Instagram:@hurttohealingpodA big thank you our wonderful charity partner Shout.
