77. Battling the booze with Simon Bartz

Welcome to Episode 77 - Battling the booze with Simon Bartz  June 12-18 is International Men’s Health Week and this year’s theme is healthy habits.  This week, I sit down with Simon Bartz from Elevate Counselling to talk about healthy habits that follow on from addiction to alcohol.  Simon shares his struggle with the booze, and how he used alcohol to hide from his internal struggles resulting from numerous rounds of IVF and job losses. But he also shares how he pulled through by devaluing his relationship with alcohol to now be sober and full of energy.  And make sure you stick around to hear some of Simon’s healthy habits as we recognise the importance of men’s health this International Men’s Health Week.    If you're keen to check out the links mentioned in this episode, here they are: Website: https://www.elevatecounselling.co/    Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100088205018808 LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/simon-bartz-1a378844/ This Naked Mind by Annie Grace: https://amzn.to/3qrllII   For more from Mindful Men, check out the website at www.mindful-men.com.au ***If anything triggers you from today's episode, please reach out to your support networks or seek professional help*** Cheers, Simon

76. Bowel Cancer Awareness with Jake Usher

Welcome to Episode 76 of the Mindful Men Podcast - Bowel Cancer Awareness with Jake Usher June is Bowel Cancer awareness month, so what better way to raise awareness than to talk about our bums?  This week I’m joined by a not-so-average Aussie bloke Jake Usher from WA. Jake has an incredible story of being diagnosed with Stage 4 Bowel Cancer at the age of 31. What started off as an itchy bum and regular visits to the toilet, ended up in a colonoscopy, surgery and chemotherapy. Jake shares his story with the aim of inspiring other young people out there to have a chat with their Doctor if they’re concerned about their colon. This is particularly the case for young Australians, because as Jake mentions in the show, colon cancer is not just an old person’s disease. 71. Addiction and Social Work with Joey Pagano

Welcome to Episode 71 - Addiction and Social Work with Joey Pagano As a therapist with lived experience of mental illness, I place a lot of value in combining lived experience with professional drive. And whilst it’s not crucial that therapists have lived experience, it certainly helps to understand what our clients are telling us. This week I’m talking to social worker Joey Pagano who shares his lived experience of heroin addiction, and how he uses this experience to help addicts in his community to step on their recovery path.  Joey gets vulnerable about his addiction, and how it impacted his military career, relationships and ultimately resulted in jail time. But he also shares his phoenix moment, rising from the ashes of addiction to be a recovery cowboy and now 3x author with his latest book No Addict Left Behind out now (link in the show notes).  If you're keen to check out the links mentioned in this episode, here they are: Website: https://noaddictleftbehind.life/ Instagram:  https://www.instagram.com/gratefulandclean/ Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/gratefulandclean LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/authorofnoaddictleftbehind/ No Addict Left Behind: https://amzn.to/3oSeuao  The Prescription to Heal Your Career: https://amzn.to/40I2vJK  For more from Mindful Men, check out the website at www.mindful-men.com.au ***If anything triggers you from today's episode, please reach out to your support networks or seek professional help*** Cheers, Simon

70. Self Sufficient Me with Mark Valencia

Welcome to Episode 70 - Self Sufficient Me with Mark Valencia   In recent years, I’ve discovered how good gardening can be for my mental health. It was a staple activity for me during COVID lockdowns, and then again as I recovered from burnout. And as it turns out… I’m not the only bloke who feels this way about my little patch of earth!    This week, I’m joined by a military veteran turn YouTube star - Mark Valencia from Self Sufficient Me.    What I love about this episode is how Mark also used gardening as a way to manage his mental health. I really valued how Mark was so open about his PTSD, and the insights he has into gardening, life and content creation.    This episode also coincides with ANZAC Day 2023. On behalf of the Mindful Men community, I give my thanks and respect to all ANZAC personnel and their families - past and present.     If you're keen to check out the links mentioned in this episode, here they are: ·       Website:  https://selfsufficientme.com ·       YouTube:  https://www.youtube.com/selfsufficientme ·       Instagram:  https://www.instagram.com/self_sufficient_me/ ·       Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/Self-Sufficient-Me-260782203958500/ ·       TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@selfsufficientme   For more from Mindful Men, check out the website at www.mindful-men.com.au   ***If anything triggers you from today's episode, please reach out to your support networks or seek professional help***   Cheers, Simon
