Emancipate Your Mind: 121: Unexpected Changes

My kids all started school this week and I received the paperwork with the demands for scheduling and parent volunteer hours this semester in order for them to participate. It’s much more hectic than I anticipated and the craziness already began this week. As they are entering a busier and more demanding phase in their lives, I’m realizing I must enter a new phase in mine to be the support I want to be for them. After calendaring my new schedule and having a family meeting this week, I realized I won’t have the bandwidth to provide you all with a podcast I can be proud of. I’m choosing to put my kids and my sanity above the podcast for the next few months. I hope to be back in January, but what lies ahead is still unknown. Live Wednesday calls will continue for the time being because we all like conversing so much. If you’d like to be included, with or without a donation, email me at teri@emancipatedcoaching.com. Thank you for a wonderful 2 1/2 years so far and I hope we’ll get to continue sometime in the future.

Emancipate Your Mind: 120: Helping Your Teen Discover Their Personal Identity

The primary developmental task your teen will go through, whether they grew up in high demand religion or not, is differentiation. Differentiation is a process all humans go through to establish an individual identity separate from their parents and authority figures. It is a process whereby we discover our values, our beliefs, our desires, and our boundaries. The process our teens are going through is very similar to the one we experienced after leaving high demand religion. Now we get to apply the skills we learned from our own experience to support our teens in self discovery. _________________________________________________________________________________ JOIN THE LIVE WEEKLY DISCUSSION CALL Monthly donors to the podcast receive weekly supplemental emails with additional exercises as well as access to a live weekly discussion call every Wednesday at 6:30pm MT. Emancipate Your Mind: 119: Healing Emotional Safety For Teens After High-Demand Religion

Creating a sense of emotional safety in your home after high demand religion with teens is a little different than starting with young children. You’ve likely already established relationship patterns. And if it feels like your teen is closed off or won’t share their feelings and thoughts freely with you, there’s likely some work needed to heal those old patterns. In this episode, we talk about some steps you can take now to create that safety for your teens and young adults if it’s already been damaged a bit in the past. _________________________________________________________________________________ JOIN THE LIVE WEEKLY DISCUSSION CALL Monthly donors to the podcast receive weekly supplemental emails with additional exercises as well as access to a live weekly discussion call every Wednesday at 6:30pm MT. Emancipate Your Mind: 118: Creating Emotional Safety for Young Children

Parenting after deconstructing high demand religion can feel daunting. Going from a system where you’re given a road map for how to raise your children to having to rely on both your inner guidance and the guidance your kids share with you can feel scary and confusing. Creating a parenting environment where you’re able to work alongside your kids to make sure their unique needs are met requires that kids feel emotionally safe with you. When children feel safe being vulnerable, they can share what’s working and what isn’t working for them in your parent/child relationship and in their life in general. Today, we discuss how you can begin to create emotional safety for the very young children in your life. _________________________________________________________________________________ JOIN THE LIVE WEEKLY DISCUSSION CALL Monthly donors to the podcast receive weekly supplemental emails with additional exercises as well as access to a live weekly discussion call every Wednesday at 6:30pm MT. Emancipate Your Mind: 117: What We’ve Learned About Parenting Since Leaving High-Demand Religion with Kevin Hales

When we left Mormonism, we were terrified of what that would mean for our kids. It’s been 6 years of trusting ourselves as parents, trusting our kids input about what they want for their lives, and creating a dynamic parenting strategy together. While it has been far from perfect, we’re pleased with how things are going. This podcast is a conversation about what we’ve learned along the way. ________________________________________________________ Kevin Hales is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Colorado and Religious Trauma Coach with services available around the world.
