Life After God: Finding Faith When You Can’t Believe Anymore - With Mark Feldmeir

The understanding of God that many Christians insist is so clear in the Bible makes faith seem like an all-or-nothing proposition. When much of that rigid projection seems in doubt, it’s not surprising that many people leave behind this take-it-or-leave-it religion. This week I am joined by Mark Feldmeir to discuss his new book "Life After God: Finding Faith When You Can't Believe Anymore". What do we do when our image of God is no longer viable? Mark asks all the big theological questions and provides a beautiful, constructive way forward. Life after God offers glimpses of the ineffable God, who can emerge when we forget what we think we’re supposed to believe about God and open us up to the mystery, wonder, and compelling love we crave. This was easily one of my favorite books I have read in a long time. I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did.  Resources:  Life After God (Book) MarkFeldmeir.Com Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Unblaming God - With Deanna M. Young

This week, I am joined by Deanna M. Young to discuss her new book "Umblaming God: Interpreting the Old Testament Through the Lens of Jesus Christ."  The Old Testament is filled with stories that depict God as one who demands and even commits horrifying acts of violence. The New Testament tells us that when we’ve seen Jesus, we’ve seen God—and yet Jesus never demands or commits acts of violence. How do we make sense of this? Using Open and Relational Theology, Deanna presents alternative in- interpretations to four Old Testament stories—Noah and the Flood, God “telling” Abraham to sacrifice Isaac, Canaanite genocide, and the book of Job. These new interpretations better reflect God as love, not as a God of control. Enjoy! Resources: Unblaming God (book)  Join our Patreon Come to Theology Beer Camp! Learn more about your ad choices.
